MTNL Secretly applying Fair Usage Policy

Hi,
I know there is nothing mentioned on MTNL's Website regarding FUP but i think they do apply it. Let me tell you about my experience in this.

I have 2MBPS Unlimited Connection with 120.x.x.x Public IP, I get fine speed & all but the day when i start download from rapidshare/ other websites by even / late night the connection resets every 1 minute (EXACT) I can check this on my wireless router page under PPP Connection Time every time it goes to 0:00:00:59 it will reset & give me new IP. All this happens without the ADSL light going off :@

Since the last time I have complaint on MTNL I didn't download anything for a while & the connection was pretty solid without any disconnection. I started downloaded Yesterday evening & the connection was good till about today evening from when i started facing the problem again. so i am pretty sure MTNL applies FUP or something.

It could even be that your wireless router is not able to take the load, since you mentioned that it happens just when you start heavy downloads

No i don't use the wireless its only for my cellphone I use the normal LAN connection for PC

Do you have any other explanation for this, why does this only happen when i start downloading for a day, it worked without any problem for a week when i didn;t download anything & this is not just coincidence as this happens every time

Thats not FUP ! Just do a hard reset of ADSL Wodem as well the WiFi router and set it up all over again. It should be fine then. Also run a continous ICMP Ping to some google etc and see if it happens
 
@Supra : when i said i am not a bozo, i meant that, do you think i am a fool that anything happens and i come to TE for help. Your Wrong!

The first thing i do when something like this happens is a hard reset & do the settings all over again.

My PC & the router was switched of whole night i started it right now & it still resets every 1 minute

the speed reduces to half or the connection is turned off after a certain amount is downloaded not a reset

I had the exact same issue & to fix it I hard reset the ADSL Wodem as well as the WiFi router and set them up all over again

I use the normal LAN connection for PC
 
im using mtnl n im at goregaon too...you are right about the ip getting reset every 1 min with the link light on.. i have the same problem since last night.. and also a few days back. i had called mtnl n they said theres a problem in goregaon west area.
 
Bandwidth cap - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - This is what fair usage policy , when a company has FUP , they either disconnect you after repeated offenses (Tata has this policy , dont know if they apply it) or reduce your speeds (Airtel halves your speed , Beam Telecom gives you 1mbps on the 4mbps plan) or they indulge in traffic shaping (blocking torrents and all , i think some cable ISP used to do this) . They dont magically make your router restart/get a new IP every minute .

Unfortunately , they dont teach you this in CCGSDPDHSJHDIOC certifications

Yes I know what FUP is & thats the same thing which is happening they are denying connection to a particular user by resetting it every minute to make sure that I don't download.

I have been hearing that for 3 months now
 
^^ if you are hearing that for 3 months doesnt mean MTNL has applied FUP :/

AND YES I AM USING MTNL
 
MTNL is having some connection issues but hopefully it should be sorted out soon. And NO there is NO FUP on MTNL.

Pretty much satisfied MTNL customer.
 
even before officially applying fup bsnl used to contact those people who had downloaded more than about 60-100 gb and tell them personally that they cant afford such high downloading so they will either suspend the connection or disconnect it if mtnl is doing such thing we can expect fup in few months
 
^^ LOL is it.....I downloaded more than 100 GB in my Home 500 Night UL and no one ever contacted me in last 3 years.

Btw disconnection may be just a DSLAM issue in your local exchange, so instead of blabbering here just go to your exchange. in Case of MTNL/BSNL the usual way of calling up customer care by sitting under your AC and cooling ur @ss wont work 'boi' :rofl:

Btw I hate ur avatar of putting up that MS Specialist thing :rofl:...this is not a job portal lol

Had called up mtnl told me there is some problem in alcatel server since yesterday.Problem will be solved today. [sarcasm] I mean there will be no FUP from today onwards [/sarcasm]

You are in a different City, so you cannot compare that. The exchange people are even shittier that the customer support, all they say give a written complaint to the in charge there someone called Deshpande, a stupid jack @ss who is of the same level as a linemen. So there is no point in going to exchange... I have written to TRAI and CC to the DG and ADG to MTNL exchange. lets see what they have to say.

I know that this is not a job portal, & i would love if you mind your own business & comment only if you have something specific to say related to the topic & not just blabber shit about someone's avatar this goes too W1nD too.

Also w1nD they tell me the same thing since 3 months now every time i get this problem.
