Multiplayer Game titles for PC

Please provide me with the names of few very good multiplayer games since I want to play them with my friends online. The platform should be PC. I also want to know games which can be played double in PC during offline mode with the help of Gamepad and Keyboard.

Some Queries also: -

1. GTA IV (PC) - Single player or multiplayer? Offline mode or online mode?
2. Also want to know whether I can play offline with several players with the help of 3-4 usb gamepads or joysticks?

3. Tomb Raider, Blood Rayne, Velvet Assassin (PC) release dates of new version?

I'm more of a sports games fan.. So i would suggest FIFA, PES, NBA and the like.. all are pretty good and easy to play along with friends online and offline..

Also might I add the best multiplayer game of all time - Counter Strike..
