Music Organizer

Level D
I am in search of a good music organizer. I want something which will make my entire collection be organized folder wise into Artist -> Album -> Filename and the ones for which it cannot find information should be made into a folder others/singles.

Is there any software which does such a thing ? I do not mind in connecting to the internet to search for media information.

If you could live with a few restrictions then MediaMonkey (free version) is just fine. If it's just about organizing the music then get MediaMonkey. Even I'm thinking about buying the paid version.

To do this requires that your files be tagged or have a proper filename as presumably thats the data going to be used to the organisation.

Are yours tagged then ?

Windows Explorer + Tag&Rename

Been using this combo for more than 7 years now. Have tried all sorts of other mixes as well.. but none of 'em ever got around to just doing the job as well.

Yes most songs are properly tagged with file name artist name and album name. A few might not be and so they should be placed in a different folder like Various or something.

AFAIK, iTunes will do this with least effort.

  1. Launch iTunes.
  2. Go to My Music->iTunes->iTunes Music/Media
  3. Open "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder.
  4. Drag and drop all your Music to this folder and itunes will automatically organize all your music collection in "Artist->Album(s)->Song(s)" fashion.

Results will vary depending upon how accurately your collection is tagged.

I want something to resturcture my music library as in the folders not just display it in my media player.

Yes, and i explained how the same can be achieved in my post above.

Media files when added to Automatically add to itunes folder help create an organised music library/collection in My Music->iTunes Music->Music like this:

3mKe

And once you're done with this just copy your music library from the iTunes Music -> Music folder to wherever you want and use it with your desired choice of media player.

I agree with Styx. iTunes is the software I use to organize my music collection. If you select the "Keep my music folder organized" option then it will do what you are looking for.

I used to use EasyTag when my collection was organizable :) but looks like the latest version is around 2 years old! But pretty extensive, you can edit tags from folder names and rename folders and files from tags, etc, etc.

If all you're looking for is simple creation of folders from tags, iTunes could do well, but beware, some options would make it convert your files to ac3 format.

That can be easily avoided by selecting the MP3 encoder instead of the AAC encoder in the preferences. You can even setup a custom encoding profile with your preferred values.

I think you mean AAC ;)

AC3 is the audio format used in DVD.
