Today, earlier, ESET has released its daily av update, ver 5418, which has caused headaches to system admins and users alike worldwide. This update has caused issues to windows xp sp3, win 2003 and 2008 R2 servers alike. This update, crashes the system with a memory read error to which u are either forced to agree with or debug. Users of ESET are requested to update their products to either update, ver 5419 or 5420. There have also been reports of BSOD and system crashes.

The main problem being that the anti-virus actually locks up your explorer and unless you hit the Ctrl+Alt+Del combo, you won't go anywhere.

Windows 7 however remains to be unaffected by this update.

I experienced a weird lockup today where few windows turned white, i was able to alt tab between windows but not able to do anything else and ctl alt del didnt work either, wonder if it was because of this updates

Hey m8,

yea ur above mentioned symptons do sound like it, hope u have updated coz i as we speak had to format a friends pc which would not accept update 5419 or 5420 and would cause the same. Uninstall and re-installing the product neither worked.
