I am using BSNL broadband 250 plan for the past 1.5 yrs. i have an ADSL 2mbps modem provided by BSNL. The promised speeds are 256kbps-2mbps. But i get only download speeds of only 10-15KBPS. Even my friends reliance card in college is faster than that. I live in a town(pudukkottai,TN) and my home is only 2kms from the BSNL district headquaters.. What could be the reason for this slow speed? Is it dependent on the server in the BSNL office?? The same plan in my friends home in coimbatore(TN) is able to get 160-200KBPS.. Plz help me guys :(

I have a dell inspiron E6400 series. It has a 1GBddr2 and core2duo 1.73GHz processor... wat could be the problem... my friend has a lesser config and older modem but still gets great performance in his town.

no problem with system config. Probably some settings on modem or your pc. Did you try resetting the modem to factory default and then try to make a new connection? That could help.

Nope... How to do it??? When the LAN is connected to Laptop it just connects to internet... How to change the config of the extrnal modem???

just reset the modem

go to modem home page

type 192.168.1.1 in the browser

then username:admin

password: admin

and then see the settings to reset ur modem to default factory settings!!!

and try to minimize the joints in ur tel line to as few as possible!!!

Its Signal to Noise ratio

Signal-to-noise ratio (often abbreviated SNR or S/N) is an electrical engineering measurement, also used in other fields (such as scientific measurements, biological cell signaling), defined as the ratio of a signal power to the noise power corrupting the signal.

In less technical terms, signal-to-noise ratio compares the level of a desired signal (such as music) to the level of background noise. The higher the ratio, the less obtrusive the background noise is.

BSNL Services vary a lot from place to place, my cousin in Ghaziabad got a spped of over 60 kb ps of a connected

while my friend in Noida got around 35 from Noida (same connection/package)

i would suggest trying AIRTEL atleast there service is consistent (as far as i know)

Call up the BSNL Broadband helpline in your area and register a complaint with them. They will send someone to look into the problem and rectify it.

Has this started to happen only recently or have you been getting such low speeds from the time you got your connection???

you are atleast 2 kms from bsnl. but i am in the same complex. (old palace)

but signal is very bad here also.

I think pudukkottai bsnl is having very old servers. They are connecting more links

than its original capacity.

that is the reason.

i am enclosing the map for ref
