My buffalo died :(

Morning I switched off the device and went to office. At night it just wont switch on. It is WHR - G54 (the lower power one)

So how do I troubleshoot the thing. Also where in Mumbai can I take it for warranty. Its been less than 2 years since I bought it. Damn I will have to live without the internet for that long. :(

Checked Power Adapter??

Same happened with my Netgear. Plus it was one of the sexy ones with USB port that supported Torrent DLing straight to HDD.

I doubt it will be repairable though. Just buy a new one. Cheap Netgears start from under 1.5K.

Thanks guys. I dont have a spare adapter so cant check that. As for warranty they want a proof of purchase, what crap. Its not as if we keep all our bills forever. I have their product should be enough proof that I bought it. :|

jokes apart, 80 % it's the adapter....u may order a cheap one from dealextreme

EDITED: [Thanks to zanderzone for pointing out that this thread is about a router and not an External HDD, silly me :P]

@zanderzone
I was waiting for someone to post something similar. xD

Shit! LOL'ed hard on the replies. xD

Warranting a proof of purchase is downright ridiculous. Like HDD manufacturers, they should rely on the serial nos. instead IMO.

Never mind, try shooting a mail to the Buffalo customer service? Damn wont think that'd work since they've already put forward their warranty statement!

Btw they've 2 years of warranty? Mine's running 24x7! Damn I'm scared now! *touchwood*

Well I tried with the seagate HDD adapter. At least the lights come on for a second before they go off. It seems there is a mismatch on voltage or something. Good thing is that I can assume its the adapter. Now need to find a place where from I can buy this stuff. Dealextreme will take 3 weeks. :(

@Mr. Intech - yes thats my buffalo. It was so beautiful.

PS: Just pulling your leg mrin-tech

take the adapter to your local tv repairman or electrician and ask him to do something similar. its should be possible in three- four days if he has the parts ready with him.

edit: fastest would be to just ask the service center if you could buy one adapter from them.

You can get generic power adapters at hardware store with a switch to control output voltage. Just look at the dead buffalo adapter and see what is it's output power rating ( something like 5V or 12V and 2 A or something ) . If you get another adapter from any shop with same output power rating, it will work for sure.

These ACCEL frontline guys always ask for bills. I suppose they also handle creative RMA. My brother went there to get the EP630 replaced and they asked for bill and all. I had bought that from KMD so did not have any bill. Had to get a scanned copy from KMD, took its printout and then they RMAed that earphones :@

do you by any chance have an FWP landline phone? their adapters have similar ratings as router adapters. i did that long back when my router's adapter conked off.

the funny thing is my router's adapter conked off because i accidentally plugged it in the phone, but the phone's adapter works for the router. it happened twice (both were placed beside each other). good thing it was my MTNL's rented router, got it replaced. :P
