hI....
My system config: Vista 32 bit, quad core 2.33, 4 Gb ram, 320 Hdd.

my c drive total space is 29 GB... so this vista was using almost 25 Gb... I had 4 Gb of free memory in C.... I have kaspersky internet security. A couple of days ago I went for a full scan and this kaspersky found some virus and got struck.... I closed it and found that the virus was quarantined.... But when i checked my C drive it had only 530MB free space left.... This was yesterday, today the free space increased to 1.8 Gb....!!!
Can any1 walk me thru this?
Thanks in Advance

:):)

hey try using windows washer too,it's awesome n clears out a lot of garbage.
another thing u can try is to go to disk cleanup n remove the system restore points!
i guess this might help!
n u shud keep more free space on ur c: drive....

Download diskmax from koshyjohn.com and also get free version of advance system care3. Run both of these apps and they must free up a good amount of space. Also, turn of hibernation of you don use which will save you about 2GB's.

After everything is done, run the scan once more.

Glad to help you mate :)
But now do run those apps once in a while to keep your system clean. I use it daily infact ;)

Use CCleaner to remove unwanted stuff from C Drive.

If you want to see where you're losing space, use Space Sniffer. Everyone really should try it out.. Space Sniffer is made of pure win. Gives you a nice visualization with drill down/roll up features to see exactly how much space is taken by a file in the system.

I'd check if your C drive has a Hiberfil.sys file. :P

You had over 4GB space and you lost out 4GB hdd space in one night, it could be because your system was put into/went into hibernation. Simple solution is to either free up other space (if you want Hibernation; I have it on my laptop, its awesome. It's not enabled on my desktop though) or simply disable hibernation and delete Hiberfil.sys :)

If you want to remove your hiberfil.sys, you can use some tutorial like this but I'd like to add a disclaimer here by saying both hibernation and page filing are important system functions that you should not disable UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING

If you know what you're doing and you don't use hibernation, you can disable and remove the hiberfil.sys. I wouldn't exactly recommend removal of the page file. For those who don't know what paging is, you can always try to read the Wiki article on Paging :)

If you have installed Vista SP1, then running the vsp1cln.exe tool can reclaim some space taken for vista back up of old files. MS describes the utility as
"Windows Vista SP1 File Removal Tool Vsp1cln.exe is an optional tool that you can run after you install SP1. This tool removes older versions of components that have been updated in SP1, which are stored during the installation in case you need to uninstall SP1 later. Saving these older components increases the amount of disk space used.. Typically, you should run Vsp1cln.exe if you want to reclaim this disk space after applying SP1 and if you will not need to uninstall SP1. You can use this tool both online and offline, but you must have SP1 installed. You cannot uninstall SP1 after you run this tool on an image".

This tool is available in windows\system32

Dude please don misguide OP. First of all it's not a rule that hibernation file will be on 4Gb only. It depends on the amount of RAM you have. Secondly, hibernation file is NOT necessary for the system to run properly. Only thing is if you disable it you cannot hibernate and NOTHING ELSE! And thirdly, pagefile CANNOT be removed. It will be recreated even if you do so. :ohyeah:

So please don at at least misguide him if you can't help him!
