My 2 yr old Canon PS A95 is dying... I mean the CCD censor most probably has gone kaput... Here is a pic which i have just clicked from it...

Let me know is there is something which can be done... cant claim warrenty as i picked it up from the grey market

Talk to Canon anyhow, and tell them you got it from the US or Singapore... that's a nice camera, don't bury it without trying.

Accepted by Canon as a Known flaw on the A95

I have a friend whose A95 was replaced for free by Canon even though he had bought it in the US

^ Very recently somebody on TE had their A95 sensor replaced for free even though it was out of warranty.

Thing is that the A95 sensor was made by Sony and its a known faulty sensor so Canon is offering free replacement, no-questions asked, just drop it to the nearest Canon service centre :)

Hmmm... Thanks a lot guys... Will try it with the service centre... Also i just mailed J.J.Mehta... I don't mind paying a bit for the repairs also...

Also Anish cam you PM me the name of the person you are talking about... Let me talk to him and find out how exactly did he manage to do this and from which service centre :)

paying for the repairs will not be worth it as the repairs (CCD replacement) would cost almost as much as a new one

just call up the service center...tell them you have a A95 which seems to have a failing sensor...if in case they ask for bill etc., tell them you picked it in Singapore

They shouldl replace it nonetheless

Hey Switch

its a known CCD problem with A95 series cameras and many other series.

This CCD was manufactures by SONY and affected besides Canon, Sony, Nikon, Olympus and other manufacturers.

Canon India repairs it free of cost irrespective of place and channel of purchase.

their source of identification is serial no.

go to canon india website and find out your nearby service centre and call them and get a date.

Its an appointment based repairs now a days at CCD are short supply atleast here in western india.

hope this helped.

if it does not go through do pm me. :D

BTW : i have got replacement of mine and 9 other cameras in my group free of cost for your referance.

Thanks a lot pal... Will call them up now... Will update here about the proceedings... And will PM you if i am stuck at anyplace :)

This will help...

I had a Nikon F55 SLR and the autofocus was not working. I had got it from a friend, his brother had bought it from mumbai around 3-4 years back, and I had no idea where it was purchased, most probably from the grey. Then I came across the service advisory from nikon which says that if the autofocus is not working they will repair it free of cost irrespective of the warranty. I took the camera to the service center in okhla, told them about the problem and they accepted it. When I went back to collect the camera, they tried to present me with a bill for the repair. I told them about the service advisory from Nikon, they made lame excuses that even though its free, they have to pay tax and bla bla while importing the parts. I told them its not my concern how they import, I insisted to speak to someone higher and few minutes later I was given back the camera repaired free of cost. :ohyeah:
