My comp has suddent become slower esp IE

Hi guys
A few days ago I was getting errors like No Audio Device, problems with the firewire card and one of the drives wasnt opening
I had my cpu to the comp guy who serviced the comp.

Now My comp is running a tad bit slower and even stops responding for 5 to 10 seconds.
Also while clicking on the IE address bar IE stops responding and this continues for like 10 to 15 seconds.

Also after getting the cpu back the display and keyboard wudnt start up and I had sent it back again.the service guy told me there was some prob with teh RAM and he solved the prob. This Im mentioning cos I hadnt had the prb before and it was only after I had sent it for repair it occured.

So what shall i do? Hes told me to increase my ram to 256 as its 196 right now. Also Im using windows xp but with no service packs.

Pls help me find a solution!

Some things to look out for :
1. Are there redundant process 's in the task manager (ctrl+alt+del ,then task manager -> prcoess's )
2.does the cpu usage peak for any particaular appss or all ?
3.do u get any windwos error dialogs?
4.does ur computer restart often ?

it looks to me that there is some virus/trojan /spyware or so. id advice taking a virus scan,as well as getting ur SP's fast.
