My first completed game rather. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

I know its too late but what a nice game. I thoroughly enjoyed this game till the end and cannot wait to start Among Thieves.

I started playing GoW1 which is a nice but very frustrating game with all those puzzles which make it tough. There is this stage when you have to climb those revolving spiked towers to come out of hell. I found an easier way to come out of hell, stop playing the stupid game.

Then I took on GoW2 which is better than GoW1 in gameplay. Again gave up at the stage when you have to defeat the moron who climbs up a door and shoots ice balls from the air. You have to evade that and then defeat the minotaur. After spending 10 minutes on the fight, I always manage to die.

My first FPS on a console was Killzone 2 and I played it for a total of 20 minutes before realizing that playing it on a gamepad is tougher than eating rice with chopsticks. Gave up on that too.

Then some random racing games in between but no real satisfaction. By this time I was almost ready to give up on console gaming.

Finally fired up Uncharted and though it was a bit ordinary in the first few minutes it started growing. The control over gun cursor kept improving and the story became more and more engrossing. My suggestion to anyone looking to start console gaming is to play this game first.

So which other games do you recommend based on my experience?

PS: the console games are nothing compared to PC in term of graphics. Maybe I need to turn the sharpness down to 0 on my TV. Otherwise the graphics are not very smooth.

Go with GOW3, Little Big planet. They are awesome too.

If you were comfy with FPS on console, Time is for Killzone 3.

Also get GT4 and 5 for racing.

Infamous 1 is also good.

Also continue your journey in uncharted 2 among thieves.

what i have learnt with 5 months usage on PS3 is that you have to be patient with games. GOW series can be very tough at some portions but you can always check the walkthroughs on youtube when you are stuck and eventually, you go on playing and it grows on you. I tried resistance 2 but just didnt get to like FPS on console, maybe need to give it another shot. i enjoyed nfs hot pursuit and burnout paradise so am liking racing games although needs a lot of practice.

you can try dante inferno which is easier than GOW series, little big planet, red dead redemption for starters.

Uncharted 2 : Among Thieves

God of War 3 (Puzzles not as tough as the previous chapters)

Heavy Rain

Red Dead Redemption

inFamous

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1 & 2

Metal Gear Solid 4

Dantes Inferno

Bayonetta

Heavenly Sword

I have steered clear of recommending any FPS games. Don't like playing FPS games on Consoles. I have also deliberately steered clear of recommending any Cross platfrom games that are available on PC as well (Ex: Darksiders, Burn out paradise etc).

LOL I think i may be the only one on TE who completed all the 5 main GOW games without any walkthoughs (GOW3 is an ongoing project :P )

BTW renegade if you didn't like GOW 1 and 2 you will not like GOW3 (best hack-n-slash game ever)

recommended games? LBP, RDR, Infamous and MGS4.

^You definitely thought wrong then. :P I haven't referred to a single walkthrough for any GOW game by far. I am not sure if it was all that hard either. Everything was pretty much straight forward.

Renu, try LBP 1 and 2 with your partner. In co-op this game would be awesome. Get a second DS3 controller first. Seems like hack-en-slash isn't your cup of coffee. You are better off not hurting your fingers.

Uncharted 2 is a good option. Or maybe a bit later since Uncharted 3 is coming up this November so you could have a good break before the third title. Trust me, you are definitely going to be left asking for more goodness once you've completed Uncharted 2. Heavy Rain is another solid title. Interactive drama based title unlike the rest of the crop. L.A. Noire, releasing today is something in similar lines with investigation during the '40s.

@Lord: Ninja Gaiden Sigma? Srsly? :P OP says he couldn't complete GOW 2 and you are suggesting something that is a dozen times harder!

Wow! Renegade, I am just like you, I use my PS3 mainly for arcade games (love the fifa franchise!) I tried playing resistance 1, dint fancy the controller and fps for me just dont mix, after reading about your experience, will definitely give Unchartered a go, and hopefully get me playing fps on the console!!

If it's your first experience with console, then I'd suggest you to take sometime to get used to playing with a controller, especially an FPS game. God of War can be extremely frustrating at some points, but it's not impossible to beat the game. It just requires some patience. If you're having grave difficulty with the puzzles, then use a Walkthrough, there's no shame in that. I had used Walkthroughs plenty of times for God of War I & II. Didn't use anything for God of War III though. The reason why Playstation owner pushes/recommends new users to play God of War titles is because these games are made on an EPIC scale. The storyline, visuals, action, gore, soundtrack etc. everything about the game is brilliant & authentic to the Greek Mythology. Also what difficulty were you playing the game on?

Uncharted is a no non-sense easy to pick up and play kind of game. It's like going through set-pieces of a movie. Play the second game and it will feel like nothing less than a Summer blockbuster. Definitely try Red Dead Redemption, you can enable aim assist feature to help your aiming. Pick up Ratchet & Clank series. They are total fun. What else? Ummm...pick up Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. Pretty decent title, if you liked playing Uncharted.

Go play Uncharted 2 , the best game i've ever played hands down ! First game which left me wanting more :) Cannot wait for Uncharted 3 now ! Also try out Infamous , very nice game that one.

Thanks all for the recommendations. Will get back to this thread for the next game to pick after I am done with UC2. :D

No I do not have problem knowing what to do in GoW, I have problem doing it. I have referred to the walkthrough wherever needed. I just don't like a game where 50% gameplay involves falling off a platform and dying.

I do like the hack and slash games and that is the aspect I enjoyed in GoW 1 and 2. Until I reached the stage where I had to fight Thesias. Maybe I need to do something differently. Finding it hard to evade the ice balls, ice towers, fighting minotaurs and shooting arrows all at the same time.

Also I do not have a PC powerful enough to play games after say HL2, so I do not mind cross platform games.

And now that my control over the joystick has improved after playing UC1, I might just like the FPS too. So lets see. :)

If you like UC series, then u should be liking Heavy Rain (Graphics) and MGS 4 (Game Play) for sure.. My personal recommendation will be start off with MGS 4 and then with Heavy Rain...

Would suggest TPS vs. FPS seem to be easier with the axis controllers. Jumped on KZ3 as my first console game. Difficult but fun.

MGS 4 - Thats how games must be made.

Infamous - Next Best Superhero game apart from Batman

RDR - Awesome Action

Killzone 2(Not 3) - Test your shooting skills

Heavy Rain - Redefines Gaming

L.A Noire - Redefines how action games can be like RPG.

Once he tries NGS, it would go back to GOW with a new perspective

LOL.. You have seen nothing. Console games of this day have actually dumbed down over the years. Even NGS and NGS2 are dumbed down compared to their original counterparts on the XBOX and XBOX 360. Frankly try NGS once and once you realize that its hard work to clear the training level, approach GOW once more and you will feel like its a piece of cake.

Haha yeah. NGS would give his fingers some nice exercise so GOW could end up being a lot lot easier. Wise suggestion indeed.

On a similar note, I am sure he'd fall asleep if he begins MGS 4 though. I know of a bunch of them who did that and returned back the disc to me. :P

Don't start Heavy Rain just yet. Unless you're familiar with it's gameplay style, you'll hate the control system. My advice is to try it's demo and then see if you're good to go with the full game.

Quite a similar story here, though I started straight with Uncharted 1, enjoyed it totally but the bad thing it's toooo small. I don't want to start UC2 so soon, will try out other things like Kill Zone 2 and 3, Resistance 1 and 2, GOW 3 (I have played all these 3 in PSP as well, loved it).

I didn't understand one thing though...GOW 1 and 2 was for PS2, did they re-release it for PS3 or what??

And how come no one talked about COD?? COD 4 or COD MW II or COD BO??
