my first rig selection...advice needed :)

i'm looking at the options available...if needed she can stretch the budget for i7...but that is if it's absolutely needed! is i7 860 worth buying and is it phenomenally better than i5 750? and how different is it from i7 920/930?

can i somehow lower down the price on some items? like...instead of going for CM 310 can i go for a local brand and save some penny?

Hey,

If you are thinking of going i7 9xx series better take a look at this Mobo :

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Motherboard

The best mobo in its Price (~Rs.11500)

Its got DDR3 Triple channel , SATA 3.0 , USB 3.0 and can Overclock i7 920 to 3.8Ghz with ease (Had seen this done in some Review...)

I was thinking of getting this mobo, but it wasent available in India a month back,

But now it is,

Buy it before it goes out of stock, Because a lot of people low an budget are looking for this one...

ok...one thing decided...she does NOT want to go for i7 9xx series..cannot increase the budget that big...

so we are left with

i5-750 -> ~37K

i7-860 -> ~42K

now i don't understand the difference between the top model of i5 and the lowest model of i7...i believe i7 is better as it has 6 cores?? but how better is it than i5 750..? if the difference is spectacular and worth spending then she can spend otherwise i5 is very well suited.. she is not going to OC

this is the rig we have ALMOST finalized on...

Intel Core i5 - 750/Intel Core i7 - 860 -> 10.2K/14.8K

Intel DH55TC -> 5.5K

Western Digital Blue 500 GB -> 2.2K

Kingston 4GB DDR3 -> 5.6K

nvidia MSI 250GTS -> 7.2K

Corsair 450W -> 3.8K

Cooler Master 310 Elite -> 1.55K

Logitech -> 0.7K

APC 550VA -> 1.9K

Get a i-5 750. Period.

There is something called google. plz use that and chk for few reviews and specs. Its not that hard. Typing i-7 860vs i-750 should give you many links like this.

core i-7 860 vs core i-5 750 - Google Search

The only 6-core CPU from Intel is the i-7 980EE which costs 55k in India. So the processor itself costs more than ur budget.

Bench - CPU - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News

Use this to compare two processor according to games/Softwares. Go for the Gigabyte H-55M-UD2H ~ 6.5k instead of the Intel H55. The Gigabyte has much better build quality and connectivity options.

u can also try the new X6 1055T & 1090T (10.5k & 14.k resp).
890GX based mobo will cost around 7k (with SATA 3 & USB 3).
Can be easily oc'd to 4GHz and above if required and runs a lot cooler than Intel i5/i7.
saying this cuz i've also owned a i7 860 sometime back.

ok...now what i understood from that link is.

i7 860 certainly is better than i5 750 but the performance is not considerably higher, as higher that can tempt the buyer to exceed the budget..

plz tell me if i'm wrong...

i can get a gigabyte which DarkAngel has suggested....and i believe it's good enough...i am still not clear how much better i7-860 is from i5-750...is it worth exceeding the budget?
