hi friends,
i have been experiencing some strange issues with my hdd.. i have a seagate 500gb sata, and its hardly 1 year old i guess.:(
it all started yesterday, some clicking sound and a BSOD, restarted but same problem, and today morning it was working good but after an hour or so again the hanging starts (no BSOD)
i run a test in hd tune pro and it gives some kind of warning msg which i can't figure out properly:-
below is the screenshot, plz tell me whether its life gone and should i give it for rma- or are there any other tests i can carry out with the hdd.
thanx

Goto Seagate's website and download the SeaTools s/w........ Run those tests and take tht error code and apply for warranty.....

The "Current Pending sectors" are the current unstable sectors, which might result in future bad sectors.
Don't worry about them, the current value is 1, and with time it will be automatically become 0. Beacuse the HDD to try to repair those unstable sectors, and once its done the value will reduce.

This happens mainly due to system crash,BSOD,etc.
Once one of my HDD developed this problem, but with time it got solved by itself.
The second one "HDD DMA CRC Error Count" is said to be due to communication error, usually by the sata cable. You can try changing the sata cable. But i am not sure if it will get solved.
I have a 80GB HDD which still shows that error, i tried different cables, but same error.

@panzer008 , i doubt it seatools will detect anything. These errors are not even flagged by older versions of HD tune

No idea about the first value, but keep an eye on UDMA CRC error count value. If it's not increasing, then you need not worry.

I say get your HDD RMA'd just to be on the safer side. Take a backup before doing so. :)

Re: My HDD Dying???? suggestions plzz

My new WDEars 1TB developed bad sectors after showing CRC error around 250. Those sectors were unrecoverable. lost partition table too.

It was pretty unusable after that as hdd slowed down and sometimes stopped responding completely. Switching to new SATA cable did not help.

Interesting results shown by google study : HDD replacements needed replacement for issues that SMART drive status polling didn't or couldn't determine.

Maybe..... but his BSOD's and hangs r not stopping which means he will need to get it RMA'ed...... so he'll need tht error code generated by the Seatools to submit for RMA......

I hav a Seagate 500GB HDD which has "Current Pending Sector = 1" which came after "Reallocated Bad Sectors = 2048 with Current & Worst = 1" which meant the HDD didnt hav anymore extra sectors to reallocate to........

Then the HDD started to go missing frm bios and tht was it......
