My new laptop battery does not charge at all and the BIOS shows warning that the charger may be delivering lower current. Will this affect CPU performance as well?

I have a Dell E6400 and the CPU it P8400. This is my CPU-Z screenshot and the clock speed seems to be much less than ideal.

Try running a benchmark and then check CPU-Z speeds. At idle you will see the effects of Speedstep lowering the multiplier to save battery.

Sometimes CPU-Z will not auto-update the speed, so try a run of OCCT or Prime.

Battery not charging is an issue, but it has less to do with the charger and more with how the battery management system is responding to the new battery. Is it a Dell original battery, or a third-party fitting?

There is a definite link to the CPU speed and the battery, you will have to disable all power management features if you want to see full CPU speeds with a non-charging battery. Try removing the battery and looking at CPU speeds while it's on mains, or even in BIOS. Should tell you where the issue is.

I've come across issues where Dell intentionally cripples charging when a 3rd party battery/charger is used. Though never faced it personally, but many users complained about it.

Its an original Dell battery. Even got the first one replaced to be sure.

Will check benchmark on Saturday as I am travelling now.

And this cpuz screenshot is on mains, not on battery.[DOUBLEPOST=1363594656,1363252071][/DOUBLEPOST]I tried using a different Dell charger and the battery is charging fine. I have ordered a new charger and will post back with the comparison for educational purpose. :writing:

AFAIK, thats because you have the P8400 CPU which is supposed to be super cool (And it is, never seen the laptop heat up, ever! Run Vista :P ). I have seen this on my aunts laptop too.

On the new power adapter while running LOTR. It used to be a slideshow on my previous adapter.

lol. the first cpuz screen - like old days pentium speeds of 660MHz
Looking at the end result now, seems like dell support palmed off faulty adapters to you the first two times.

Nah the previous one was my original adapter and it lasted more than 4 years.

I had also bought a battery as the previous had died. The battery was the Dell original which I got replaced assuming it was the battery.
