My new audio setup?

I live in a small dorm,so am planning to buy Altec Lansing MX-5021 2.1 speakers. But Iam bit unsure off, whether buying a soundcard,,as I came to know that soundcard would make a sizeable difference for the MX-5021.
My audio needs are:
Music,Movies,Games..in order of their decreasing priorties.
but I want best of all the worlds,,I mean something which does justice to all of them.
So please advise me a good soundcard,,
As Sangram's Alien DAC has been already sold,,and there's no second piece!:(
I came to know Asus Xonar DX is a good bet,,but dunno about it's VFM'ness for 5k!!!
and though I can,,but I think it doesnt makes sense to buy a 7k Creative X-fi Elite Pro(obviously, thru KMD) for speakers, that are bit less than the same on the price point. But,,If the sound experience with the same,is Exhiliaritingly different from onboard performance, then maybe,i Can think about saving a few grand for the same!!!

for now , a low end creative should be fine :) . for audio, as long as you use foobar and SSRC, they should sound as good as the X Fi's :)

yeah i got ure ppoint greenie!
but wot do you mean by,,"it is good for now"..do you mean that 5021 gives ok performance with these..but doesnt truely justify it's performance..and in future I may need to buy another sound card,,for optimum audio!!if that's wot u mean..then I would prefer descent VFM option for soundcard,,now itself,,as I dont want to keep upgrading soundcards!!!

good for now ie with the MX. if you plan to get better speakers ( ie a seperate amp+ bookshelves, something of that sort) then the Xonar will justify its cost

i bought the audigy value for 1.7k from prime...lammy

but mx5021 is nowhere available at lammy...and prime quoted almost 1k high price when it's available from it's 6200 last known price...;-(

How will you be able to take those speakers to their deserving potential.. I fail to understand.

I am stuck in a flat where, if, I drive the volume knob more than 1st LED indicator (1 out of 5 levels). My neighbor/landlord or someone rings the bell :@

I have paired my MX with Audigy as well... decent setup...

quality!=loudness. for your situation, the audioengines would have been a better idea, since they sound better at low vols :)
