guyz, I m experiencing this strange problem from some dayzz now.

My PC freezes randomly.Whatever task or whichever application i might be working on, i get a message on title bar saying not responding.

Even music/Video i am playing stops.

But after sometime, everything becomes normal.(as if nothing had happened).

I even reinstalled OS . . . .but same

Now, what i observe is >>>>>

Red light on my cabinet ( Indicating HDD activity ) continuously seems to be active at the time of freeze.

i came to a result that my HDD might have Bad Sectors.

M i going in a right direction ???

If so,can someone suggest me a good Bad Sector Remover . . .

If not,What else needs to be done to get rid of this ???

Thnx in advance . . . .

EDIT : I forgot to mention . . . .i m using Western Digital HDD and I encountered some bad sectors in 1 of my drive couple of months back which i guess were repaired by CHKDSK.

Here is my HD Tune results >>>>

Can some1 temme wats wrong wit my drive ?? . . . any solution ??

Bad sector is the most likely culprit and from what I have learnt is that, these are warning signs that your hdd may go kaput anytime, better backup any important data you may have.

I used to have samsung IDEs which went kaput in 4-5 days of showing such signs, never used samsung ever again.

If the drive is still under warranty, better send it IN.

I believe that bad sectors are notorious even if they are removed by some software, it will take a long time(very long for a low level operation) and there will always be a doubt whether the bad sector would spring back.

Too much risk and worry with sensitive data at stake

But the first step should be to run a chkdsk to make sure that bad sectors are present.

maybe there r few bad sectors check using hd tune error scan 1st quick then full and with the vendors own software like seatools for seagate

if theres a physical bad sector then no u cant remove it ..... send it for RMA etc

if thats not the issue then ur psu maybe the culprit which unable to provide the continuous pure voltage......are u using a generic 1?

last but not the least heating issue

rest i cannot think of anything

Exactly the same problem i was facing 2 months ago.

Turned out to be a lose/faulty SATA cable.

After viewing my HD tune results, i doubt tht its a problem with SATA cable.

now, can sm1 recommend me a solution for getting rid of such HDD error ?

If ur HDD in Warranty send to RMA ...

yea my HDD is in Warranty.. . . .but i prefer to avoid sending it to RMA coz i didnt hv any other source for making Back-ups. . .

i hv ~200 GB imp data . . .and burning 200GB on DVDs ain't appropriate.

I backup my 500 gb data in DVDs and send my HDD for RMA , Then why not u backup ur data in DVDs .

I know it is not a good idea but their is no way .

i'lll be giving ma HDD for RMA soon . . .. . but for a time being ain't thr any solution to minimize these freezes . . . ???

I'm having the same issue with my 1.5 TB WD Green. The difference is that there arent any bad sectors on the disk. Tried the usual cable changing/port changing shenanigans but no improvement. Any suggestions?

Most of the times SMART detect errors with hdd. Enable SMART from bios. If your system freezes, check with hdtune if health's ok and smart status. If you have already done that, hdd might not be the issue. Did you check hdd for bad sectors by doing complete scan?

Well, best option is if you have a friend and he has an extra HDD or just bring his current HDD and copy all your important data into his HDD(Will take 2-3 hours). Once RMA'd you can copy back your stuff. At least not much work than copying in DVD's , but it's always safe to save data in DVD's once you get your HDD back.
