I found one of websites which mentions all the Microsoft services, their usage and the version of windows for which they were implemented. Its a really good resource. check out:

Yes I do use Linux and Mac as virtual OS to test my code. But I have always used Virtualbox rather than Hyper-V. I enabled it just to see what it was as it was a new addition to windows 8.
I am already checking out the links you gave to verify the services I have stopped.

Yes, blackviper is a great and respected resource, although it will help you only with the services. For other processes, which do not start as services, you will still have to research.

I think Virtualbox is a better choice than Hyper-V, although I haven't used any, so I won't know more.

Thanks everyone, the issue is resolved for now though the research will go on further. Marking as solved and selected best answer.

of course, he has info related to Win8, but if you'd been following him since XP's days and if you'd known about windows' inner-working then it would've been fairly easy to figure out that blackviper's tricks are based upon how XP works.

BTW, you need to start experimenting with non-windows services first. If you are confident then open up services.msc otherwise, use msconfig and check the following option first and then attack the unwanted services/processes.

Yes i made the changes to non Microsoft services only at first, then Microsoft services, verifying them on even Microsoft website, technet.

Can you please show a screenshot of resmon with the memory tab open? That should show up the breakup of the memory usage.

Found out that Hyper V was consuming that amount of RAM. Now I have turned on all the Microsoft services and other important services and still usage is just 14-15 %.

Yes it allocates the resources even though it was not running any VOSE, and I was so confused what could be using so much of RAM?

Yep, Hyper-V uses an prominent amount of memory for it's proper working. I was having this problem earlier though my memory usage was only 60%.

i'm facing similar problem but here in my case its is disk usage... having 8gb ram for laptop and core i7 2nd generation but after upgrading from win 8 to win 8.1 i'm facing disk usage to 98 to 100 % most of the time... changed the paging size but no use.. any other solutions? pl suggest

You should have started a new thread, as your issue seems to be different.

What's the space in your hard disk? How much percentage is full? How much free? What's the total capacity of the hard drive, and the C: drive? Post details.
