so i got this "operating system not found " while booting up , tried installing windows 7 and it said that the present hard disk is not suitable to installing a OS or something to that effect ....and so i deduce that the harddisk is the problem ....

so i have 2 choices , either install a new harddrive myself and void warranty or send it to chennai and get it done there ....of course sending it to chennai and getting it done means a lot of time ... i dont know how long though ...so what is your guys thoughts on this

Are you sure that replacing the harddisk will void your warranty?

Most new netbooks come with a panel in the bottom of the netbook which is easy to remove and does not have any warranty stickers on. This is being done to facilitate easy upgrade of RAM and Harddisk by the owner. If you replace HDD, warranty will be valid.

I think your netbook should have some panel like that. Look to see if any warranty stickers are guarding that panel. Most probably there wont be any stickers.
P.S: You sure your harddisk is dead?
Why dont you boot using a Linux Live CD and try to access your HDD partitions.
If you cannot access them, it would confirm that your HDD is dead or corrupted.

none of the stickers are covering the screws so i guess i can open them ....yea there are no partitions ..all i see is one 149 gb hdd which i cannot do anything with

well the hard disk might not be problem but the partitions. try removing partitions and creating them again. there are 2 types of partitions in vista/7 - i dont remember the types but on one, OS cannot be installed.
