Graphic Cards NAS PC - GPU Suggestion Needed

Hello Folks,

I need to buy a GPU for my NAS/ music streaming build. The specs for the build are as follows:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X
Motherboard: Asus Prime B450M-A II
RAM: 16GB (8GB x2) G.Skill Aegis DDR4
PSU: Corsair GS800
Storage: A bunch of HDDs
Case: Corsair 780T Full Tower

The display will be a spare 32" (HD Ready) TV that I have lying about which is not being used currently. As this is a NAS build nothing other than storage of data and streaming music (occasionally) will me done on it.

What is the cheapest GPU I can buy now for this build?
Is a GeForce GT 710 (2GB) DDR3 a good option?

Well an additional graphics card for a NAS server and occasional streaming is going to be idle most of the time. Why waste power and a slot for it.
Personally I would sell the existing build and get a 8th gen or 10th gen intel cpu based build. Can even go lower if transcoding is not needed and direct play is supported. My 2 cents...


Actually if its just streaming music then I am not sure if graphics card is even needed tbh
 
Power is cheap here, non gaming power draw by even a high end GPU is low enough to not worry about power consumption. This is exactly the reason why such old+cheap GPUs exist
 
If you need this only for display go for the cheapest one like the GT610/GT710, basically anything with an HDMI port should do.
I'm running my Ryzen desktop as headless server, as once setup with the OS I don't need to have a GPU plugged in unless needed for debugging.

If you're interested in hardware accelerated encoding for streaming and don't want to switch platforms, you might consider going for a low end Intel dGPU like Arc A380. Configuring passthrough for apps like jellyfin is fairly easy with intel cards and can give you hw accelerated H.264/H.265/AV1 streams.
 
The reason why i use intel rather than amd is because of intel quick sync for transcoding which are contained on the non f versions.
But since I transcode 1080p to 720p sometimes for one device, I am not sure how it handled multiple transcoding tho.
 
No transcoding is needed.

The CPU, Mobo, RAM and PSU are already with me. All leftovers from previous builds.

This system will only be a data dump station and will be turned on 2-3 times a week for data transfer purposes and then powered down. This is not going to be a 24/7 NAS.

This is exactly what I needed to know, thanks so much! Getting a GT 710.
 
If you are planning to put an HBA card in future, better not get a GPU and block pci-e lanes. For nas and if you are planning to do raid, the onboard SATA ports are not reliable.

Just buy an El cheapo 3200g.

Good build, spend like another 2k and get a GT730 / GT1030

As a nas rig, it won't need much graphical processing powers, hence a 730/1030 has got 4gb vram, enough for basic needs.
