Due to availability issues we could not arrange for the Sflo 2 in the current lot of products from MP4Nation but recently a few guys have requested for the Sflo 2 via mail/PM and in threads.

We would like to get an estimate idea of how many of you would be interested in purchasing the Sflo 2 for a tentative pricing of Rs . ~7.7k - 8k for 8GB model and ~9.5-10k for the 16GB model.

As usual , all the products will come with proper VAT paid bills and 1 year of warranty.

For the people who are not aware of the Sflo2, they are considered as one of the best Portable audio players in the market because of the DAC(Dual Wolfson WM8740) used in the SFlo2. They also play FLAC files, which means uncompressed audio giving the best sound quality in a portable player. This and many other features.

This should give you more than enough information.

Seriously, I don't get why Wolfson DACs are so revered. Is it because of their sound signature? Is it because of some technical capabilities? Or is it because they have lesser issues than other DAC chips? Aren't there better DAC chips from better companies? Or is it due to their Price/Performance ratio? Any clarification for this n00b are welcome.

While we are on the subject, WM8740 is a stereo DAC. What advantages does one get if they use dual WM8740? Cleaner signal paths? Any explanation which does not go way over my head would be very helpful.

I don't know much about DAC chips and am not experienced enough. But the mere mention of Wolfson DAC chip has been met with great enthusiasm in the audiophile community. I am just trying to understand. I know that CA uses Wolfson in their CDP / DAC. But some like it, some don't.

Besides, DAC chip + implementation is what makes a better player / DAC ;)

The twin Wolfson WM8740 are high quality DACs in dual differential mode which provide excellent stereo imaging resulting in a very good seperation and sound staging.

To keep it simple, each dac renders one channel. Dual Dacs for stereo sound. This splitting at the dac level provides a better seperation from the L/R channel. Although the sound from the DAC is then sent through the Philips TDA1308 amp and finally to the 3.5mm HO, but the amp can be bypassed when using the LO. As per what i've read on Head-fi, the LO>HO. Me, I can't really tell the difference, its just that through the LO the volume jogger doesn't work since the amp(being responsible for volume control) is bypassed through the LO. From what I understand is that the sound from the LO is straight from the Wolfson DAC hence is cleaner. Educate me if i'm wrong.

The WM8740 is also used in the Cambridge DacMagic IIRC. Although the sound of both these devices will not be the same owing to other factors(even when compared directly through LO) but the Sflo2 renders a pretty good performance considering its portability and price factor.

@pristine...

talkign abt those Onda players... Just checked their site.
Not only Onda, other options are Teclast (as in this S flo2 is also Teclast M51), Ainol etc

The very popular Nationite OS 72 HR is Teclast M50.

^^

I am vary of ordering from directly. People are posting really long times. plus the warranty also. :S.

^^ Correct. But i meant, if he can get these company players too, it will be great.

Eg: Sourcing Teclast M51 directly can decrease the price of this by around 1.5 to 2 K (i think) and what we get is Sflo2 only.

Beware of the BAD UI :(

Overall a Good player if you can manage to tolerate the Chinese buggy UI .

Hope they improve on the software ever soon .

^ Well yea, that too ;) UI Sux!!! Hardware is amazing. Somehow i got used to it in a week. And F/w v2.3 made it slightly better. So yea, it just works.

If the prices are not too high compared to direct source, I'm pretty sure that you'll have a good response. On the other hand, if its too high, people would go to directly order from MP4Nation itself.

If I order directly, it would cost me around 8.1k ($180 * Rs. 45) for the 16GB, without customs. So around 9.1k would be attractive, 9.5k would still be bearable. Beyond might be too much for many people.

I got my player from mp4nation.net and it took exactly 2months from the day I ordered till the day I got them. This was after raising several tickets on Mp4nation's support website. Their response for my ticket was nice and speedy, but that din't change the fact that it took them 45days to send the item out(they blamed telcast for shortage for which they wouldn't/couldn't do anything) and 15days for hongkong post to send it and it to go through customs and reaching my house.

@PristineNote : Would you be keeping some stock of the Sflo2 with you?

^ You can (in fact should) pay around Rs. 800 more and get it through EMS and get it delivered well within a week to avoid excessive delays with delivery and avoid things getting lost/switched in transit.
