Been using it from 'I don't know when'. These days mainly useful to see what a web page is loading. I can check the size of each item being loaded, and stop the item loading by clicking on the Naviscope resource bar.

Creating this thread mainly because I tried to install it on Win7 64-bit and failed. Finally right clicked naviscope 8.70.exe and enabled 'Run this program in compatibility mode for Win XP SP3'. Installed perfectly.

Tried googling for this info and failed. Hopefully Naviscope fans (everywhere) will find this useful.

Edit : Since this is basically forgottenware, this is what it looks like :

Hi PoBoy,

I also have been using Naviscope for more years than i can remember.

I wanted to ask if your Naviscope program was leaving half of its GUI on the desktop everytime it "hides when idle". I've tracked the problem down to the Aero graphics in W7. With Vista, the Aero never interfered with the Naviscope GUI. I really like the Aero effects but the ghost image is really irritating me. Any ideas on what i can do besides uninstalling Naviscope and shelving it. :hap5:

Its a real shame this software is no longer developed :(

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: By the way when i installed my Naviscope I simply ran it with Admin rights. I didnt use the compatibility mode. It installed perfectly (apart from the GUI glitch). I tried running it in XP SP3 mode but it made no difference.

Seems to work OK here - same as in 98, Me, XP32 and Vista32. I use "Remove all tools", "Shrink when idle", "Always on top" and "Resource Bars". Pic below :

The only prob is that very rarely, the resource bars end up in the middle of the screen. If I click the part that is just above the taskbar, the resource bars fall back into place. But I had observed this on other Windows too.

Try shrink while idle.

Hello again and thanks for replying. The "Shrink when Idle" option works the same as yours on my system. But if I enable the "Hide when Idle" option that is when i get the GUI problems.

Is this the case for you?

Its a real shame that after all of these years no-one has taken up the challenge of writing a similar program from scratch. My understanding is that the original developer lost the source code in some kind of catastrophy. :(

Just a real shame.....this has been one of my most useful pieces of software and considering it was written back in the Win 98 -ME days and then abandoned. Its an absolute triumph to whoever wrote the original code that this little piece of software has run on all versions of Windows since then including W7. :hap2:

Absolutely. Agree 100%.

The number of times I have seen a web page load a 200k+ image/js and clicked its resource bar to abort the download ...
