Hi
This might get buried under all the other posts but I want to give this a shot :)
I am looking to buy decent noise cancelling headphones. I travel a lot (1 week out of every 3 weeks) and need these during the long flights. Primarily used for in-flight but also used sometimes for listening to music on my ipad.
I hate the in-ear ones and not sure if the on-ear ones can be used for extended durations.
budget is around 10-12k. Key factors - Great sound quality, not too bulky, foldable?, good build quality
I can buy these in India or Singapore airport (transit) or anywhere in Australia. Can also get my office to buy in US and send to me. So it's not necessary to have the model available in India.
Guess that's a big field and probably there are many options. Would appreciate advice.

According to your requirement you can get the AudioTechinca ATM50s...they are over the ear ones......and since you can buy from U.S. you can get these wonderful headsets at $120 from amazon.

Have a look at the Vmoda M80 / Crossfade LP2 models , the Vmoda M80 have really good reviews . The LP2 atleast in images lookswise is kickass but SQ aint that great compared to M80 according to reviews.

None of these have active noise cancellation though

@OP, I have heard praises for Bose QuietComfort which are NC, but I don't believe they'll fit your budget. Sorry, can't help anymore as I haven't used HP with NC.

I totally agree with fLUX look no further than Crossfade M80 On Ear or Crossfade LP2 Over Ear headphones from V-Moda ,

Both of these fit in your criteria of noise cancelling as well as portable aka foldable H.P ,you can easily get them from amazon also if your budget allows then look at their newer M100 Over Ear headphones totally worth $300

I would recommend getting a Sennheiser HD25-1 II too even though its not a NC headphone since it isolates every day noise very well. And that too better than any NC headphone I've heard till date which includes ones from Bose and sennheiser. But only go for them if you have a portable amp like a Fiio E17 or better since a good amp will make these good sounding headphones sound even better. I mean there's no point in buying a headphone worth 12k (iirc) if you don't use it everyday at its full potential. Its like buying a Ferrari F50 and not driving it above 2nd gear ;)

Thanks everyone for the responses. I want to emphasize that since most of the usage is going to be while I am flying - I think the active noise cancelling requirement would be tops. I have never tried the noise reduction models so cant comment on if they can really block out the jet sounds completely. Would rather invest in one which has an active loop.
Also - around the ear is the best bet for me. Have tried 1 over-ear and couldnt use them beyond 2-3 hours. Considering most of my flights are of a longer duration (7 hrs+), an around the year is the one I want.
Having googled all the suggested options - I really liked the VMODA 80 and LP2 options but it says both are noise isolating? Is that the same as active noise cancelling? Noob here :)

Nope,no active cancellation in M80/LP2.
Do not know about LP2,but M80 does leak a lot of sound.
For prolonged use in flights, would still suggest HD25 with velour pads.I have been using it for couple of months now on long flights and they isolate very well with negligible leakage.

No concrete responses yet. Still in the market. My knowledge is limited to a Bose in the absence of any info.
