The samsung can only do 1080i, while the philips can do 720p and 1080p as well. Which is totally irrelevant unless you have a good upscaling DVD player, or are going to connect your TV to your PC.

^^ Well connecting tv to your pc to watch dvd's seems better than watching a dvd on tv using dvd player.(Many say quality is better)

But isn't it better to watch them on computer monitor itself ??? Or do we get better quality on high end TVs like the above mentioned philips 34 inch model ??

size matters mate...:) besides you'd have to spend a fortune to get equivalent LCD or CRT based pc Monitor, also the brighness levels on TV are generally higher than PC monitors

Oh i forgot the size thingi !!

But isn't PC monitors better than crt tv when it comes to image quality or is it true only when compared to low end 21 inch crt tvs???

Yeah the LCD's and CRT's used as PC displays have better quality (more pixels/higher resolution) as compared to LCD/CRT TV's.

But those larger number of pixels can sometimes be a problem. e.g. when you watch a low res movie on a high res monitor.

I think a 1080p should be more than enough.

I don't think that the movies or images look that bad...its the text that is not legible....Watching movies in a 34" big screen is defnitely a better experience than in most pc monitors :)

Well, PC monitors are designed to be viewed from less than an foot, while a 29" TV is supposed to be viewed from 5-7 feet away.

BTW the Samsung 32" is for 45k confirmed from Samsung Digital World

I was going for that first but then changed mind so thats why I know.

Check out Samsung CS-29Z30BP this is a 29 inch slimfit TV with half the depth of regular TV-It is 100 MHz. and really sleek it is 35k.

Hi,

I have 29PT8836 and DVP5965K/98 connect through component video and AV streo cables.

I get resolution of 576P only for DVD playback(Normal DVD). The "Upsample" button always shows invalid input symbol in the screen.

I read from the following link
Home Theater View: Upsampling is the new progressive scan that upsampling is only available only with digital video inputs (DVI or HDMI). Philips 29PT8836 has no digital video input. However in the specification Philips mentioned the resolution of 720P and 1080i. How I can get these resolution?

Have anybody tested upsampling in the above TV/DVDP combination?
Thanks
Sam
