Hi,

1. Budget - 50~55K MAX

2. Viewing distance - 3 feet to 10 feet

3. Sources/inputs such as HD DTH/consoles/stand-alone media players etc - Should work as primary display off my Laptop & HTPC. PS3 Media Server.

4. Preference for plasma TV/LCD TV/LED-LCD TV - No

5. Preference for brands - No. Love one with good service track record. But that i will decide when i talk to these guys.

6. Willing to purchase it from the grey market? - Worth it?

7. Ambient lighting conditions of the room - Well Lit most times. But Curtains\Blinds are there.

8. Any other feature you are looking for such as 3D support on the HDTV, DLNA capabilities etc - No 3D.

This will be wall mounted. So...

Thanks.

Since you are looking to play games and your room is mostly well lit, I would suggest you go for an LED. At your budget you could get a Samsung 5 series (UA40F5100) and that should server you right. Its full HD so bluray media should look awesome on screen. If you are willing to push your budget to around 63k you could go for the Sony W650.

If you need more information on TV's you could always read up at HifiVision.com

I am not sure if this will help. But here goes, I have checking out 32' for my home. I have completely ditched Sony and Samsung. Samsung has the VA panel lottery and edge lit LEDs which are cheap (not cheaply priced though) whose main purpose have been slimmer LED (if that is a consideration) but give inconsistent coloring. Sony might give the SPVA panel but there seems lacking USB play support (another consideration).
First I decided on the panel - IPS which has better viewing angle + no lottery (beware though if you have ample lighting/light source opposite to the TV, there will be reflections in the TV which might bother you). So it narrowed down to LG/Panny for me. Panny has 3 yrs warranty offer (not sure if the offer is still there) but the USB play back support is iffy. Comparatively, LG has backlit IPS panel - superior contrast and consistent coloring - and a good playback support owing to being DIVX certified (codec wise-so the limitation might come if DIVX can't really support a particular format).

But USB playback is not a requirement for me. This thing will be connected to a PC/Console/Media Player..hooked to an AVR at any given time.

Thanks.

In that case take a look at Sony, Panny and LG -- Check for backlit led for better performance - it will be bulky but picture output will be better and the input/output options too (how many HDMI ports et al) . You can also look at plasma though you will run into image retention issues.
And last but not the least, don't let the salesperson talk - he will try tooth and nail to sell you Samsung (IMO they have pretty high margins specially due to edge lit and the panel lottery, hence the huge price diff in imported pieces). Check out some models in Croma/Reliance Digital and decide.

No I was told if I have problem call him and he will give Samsung service center no and get it fixed fr free
that will be grey and dealer warranty. In case of manufacturer warranty you could approach Samsung directly. Actual cinch is Samsung provides international warranty on its TVs (though recently they have removed it for purchases from Dubai or something, I guess). So if he can quote the bill and purchase date it is entirely feasible to get it fixed at Samsung service center.

Link please, looking for something similar. You are in Mumbai right ?. Would help a lot if you could share some info, thanks.
You can check my thread mate. Will post pictures in the evening which may help you.[DOUBLEPOST=1372928410][/DOUBLEPOST]@m-jeri

Since your budget is 55 k, I would suggest you to get the tried and tested EX-430. It should cost you inside 50 k with extended warranty from Croma. The Samsung EH- 5000 costs Rs 44,000 in the showroom and croma's warranty would cost you around 3 k more i suppose.

If you are going for the higher range models with loaded features then i recommend you to get Samsung 6200. It is loaded with features but will go above your budget.

Thanks mate... I was on a vacation last weekend. Let me get back to the flow of things and check it out. :D

Based on your viewing distance of 3 feet to 10 feet and the fact that you game,go with the Sony.

At very close distance of 3 feet one can notice the shift in contrast/color at different angles, hence a IPS panel is suited since the color shift is low,it will still have a contrast shift.
A VA panel based tvs have a higher amount of color and contrast shift at off axis.
For gaming again the X-reality PRO based tvs have a low input lag, currently the fastest in the industry.
