I went to heerapanna today and could not find a 4gb stick for the psp i am going to buy, 2gb ones are for 1.8k
my guess it will be grossly overpriced at sony showrooms, where else can i get original sticks?

Original sticks are expensive anyways. They come to around 1.6k for 1GB. The ones you have been shown are prolly clever fakes. They might or might not work on ur psp.

Edit: There is a thread on vr-zone and some other places to detect fakes. See if you can dig them up.

i know the main dealer of mumbai who supplies to lamington road and other place. he quoted me 900 bux for 1gb pro duo stick and 1.5k for 2gb. 4 gb should be around 2.2

he is giving bill + warranty whatever comes.. he is the main importer/dealer dude

This is the guide i am referring to,

[GUIDE]How to tell a fake Sony Memory Stick from a real one

The original one is @ vr zone with pics, do some digging ;)

well that guide u linked to is kinda old now. cause its a lot easier to copy the packaging too. not only that now a days the fakes have come much closer to the original ones, so much so that even the insides of the mem stick are exactly the same. yes they are fake and they are cheap, but they work. and here in india you only get fakes, u never get original stuff, unless u buy from the sony ka showroom itself (inquire @ at any sony showroom, and u'd be amazing @ the cost of those tiny mem sticks lol)

buy a card from a good shop, and be happy :D

Maximum Franchise basis Shop mix 25 fake with 75 Original Stuff, it's the common trend all over Mumbai and Thane with each and every (97%) Franchise basis shop.:@

Hmm, unless you pick it up from Sony or Croma, I wouldn't these sellers.

I picked up a 2GB Pro Duo for 3K IRS all inclusive, with 5 years warranty, but I got it from Dubai.

Locally, the price for 1 GB was 2.6K and 2GB prolly around 4k+ for the original from the Sony store.

Why don't you try looking for reliable dealers on eBay.com ? The Sandisk originals sell for round $30 + Shipping from reliable US Based sellers.

yea that doesn't necessarily always work.

went to sony world in pune today. mspd 1gb for 2200 odd, mspd 2gb for 3850. no high speed versions at all. best part - the guy at the shop categorically denied that sony makes a 4gb mspd. he even called 'someone at sony' in front of me, talked for 3 minutes, and then restated that it is possible sony 'just released' it in the market.

hideously expensive and unbelievably stupid are two phrases that come to mind...

try memory-configurator...good prices - prices incl shipping match the local grey market prices and you are always sure about the quality....

You must be joking:rofl:

I fail to see the humor in your statement. If I was "joking", I wouldn't be posting here.

Either you're ignorant to the concept of purchasing off eBay, or too lazy to refine through the fake & genuine auctions?

I'll pass on a couple of links if the latter is the case.

Dude, the problem is most of the times, even sellers do not know the memory sticks they are selling are non-genuines...

Actually I wouldn't mind paying a lower price for a non-genuine, as long as it works properly, but often that's not the case...

I have a dependable electronics store near my house from where i picked a 2 GB memory stick....After sticking it in my PSP, it seemed to work fine, i.e. showed 1900+ MB available etc.

..However, at home, when i loaded it up with over 1.5 GB of data, some of the file turned out to be corrupted...

I returned this card to him, after which we sat and tried some 15 of these sticks one after the other at his store on my laptop's memory card reader...

Every single one of em started corrupting files beyond 1 GB, i.e. if i copy 1.2 GB worth of pics, all pix beyond 200 MB showed up as 0 byte files on Windows explorer.....

Ths shop guy thanked me and promtly returned all the sticks to his distri....

However, since most people will not really start filling up their 2 Gig sticks beyond 1 GB until really later (if at all) they wouldn't even realize their is a problem with the card....and till more than a few buyers won't complain, even the seller wouldn't know there is an issue

I finally found an authentic 2 Gigger after hours of hunting by insisting that I'll actually run a full test on the card while at the shop, and eventually found one after trying at some 5-6 shops

COming back to the ebay thingie, though you'll find genuine sellers on eBay, I too feel thatfor something as dicey as memory sticks, you are better off buying them at a regular store where you can actually test the stick before buying....

On ebay, even a genuine seller with over 1000+ positive ratings migt send you a 1/2 GB stick masquearding as 4 GB simply because even he wouldn;t know that these sticks aren't really 4 GB

One more thing....The non genuine Sony sticks will never give you the promised speed...

If you plean to use this stick for Vista boost, you are better off buying at Sony stores, or better still, pick up Transcend high speed USB drives
