One more question guys.
I have seen people always suggest Canon/Nikon for DSLR or even the P&S. Why not SONY ?
Is it bcoz Canon lenses and other addon are cheaper compared to SONY or something else ?
Are SONY lens/camera inferior compared to Canon/Nikon ?

@OP Sorry to use ur platform. Hope this helps you in some way or the other.

@ramanujpatro
Well for one Sony lenses are a bit more expensive here in india atleast and not available everywhere other then selected sony stores.

Their really good cameras are also more expensive ,the competition to suggested cameras here like Canon 1100D and Nikon D3100 is the Sony A33 which costs 37k and the yet to be released in india A560 and A35.

Their basic DSLR such as A290 has a better sensor then say the nikon D3000 (whose sensor dates back to the D40x Sony sensor) and canon 1000D.

Believe it or not Sony has the largest market share in india with regard to DSC cameras which includes P&S and bridge/super zoom cameras.
Their point and shoot/bridge camera sensors are used in many models including their flagship models companies like canon, nikon, fuji, ricoh, casio etc use them.

In DSLR Nikon and pentax continue to use Sony sensors as does Fuji in their X100 rangefinder cam.

Some of the common misconception is that Sony uses proprietary memory formats which was true some 2 or 3 years ago,but now they do use the industry standard SD cards and continue to support the MS duo.

Same thing with pentax no one recommends them here due to even less lenses and availability.

^ hmm.. thanks mate.
So,Expensive and availibility of lense is the reason.

So, SONY would be cheaper, if bought from US ?

Yes.You can also buy used Minolta lenses dating back to 80s all the way till the last Minolta branded lens( company was bought by Sony in 2005).

Our Brendon uses a Sony A700 ,another user here D payne uses 2 x Sony A850 he is a full time photographer.

Even if a simple lens cover breaks on a SONY, you will have to run all over town to find one. Alpha (Sony's SLR brand) accessories are a tad expensive, and you will not get matching accessories in other brands (such as Sigma or Tamron) or cheaper Chinese stuff like simple UV filters or chargers. Wedding photographers prefer these classic brands which makes it all the more versatile and easier to find everywhere.

D3100 @ 26.5k at letsbuy. try that too

that is only the body.

what i came to know from wikipedia is that a 18-55 lens provide 55/18= 3.05x zoom. and a 75-250 also gives 3.3x zoom. so why different lens size when both are giving almost 3x zoom?

"x" rating for zoom is a gimmick by Camera manufacturers...it simply means nothing...higher the focal length of lens...more "zoomed-in" objects appear...so a fixed focal length lens of 1200mm, having only "1x" zoom will give more zoomed in result than a "3x" zoom lens of 18-55mm...hope it clears your doubt...
