Need a Gaming PC. 30k budget.

Hi guys.

After putting it off for a very long time now, I've finally decided to go ahead and pick up parts for a new gaming PC tomorrow. Playing on a laptop is getting annoying.

I live in Chennai and I'll be buying stuff from Richie Street. These are the things I have in mind. Please give me price quotes and shop names if you can.

1. 8800GT 512mb

LOL. Well, the card is the only thing I'm rather adamant about after seeing everybody rave about it over here. Would cutting down on processor screw my fps a lot in next gen games or would the card make up for it? Would 1 GB 667 Mhz RAM do or would I need something like 2 GB 800 Mhz to play these games?

I can't decide between an E4500, E6500 or an E6750. Since I don't want my budget to go above 30k (I don't need a monitor btw) which of these would be the best VFM? I would also require a decent motherboard for these processors. Something not too expensive but stable enough. I won't be doing any overclocking of any sort. I've seen people talking about the Abit IP-35E but I'm not sure if that would fit within the budget.

Basically I'd need a proccy, mobo, 3d card, RAM, HDD of about 160 to 200gb, cabinet, PSU (got a samsung 15inch LCD for now. I know the rig will be overkill for those low resolutions but I'll replace it in 2 months). Is 30k too less for all of these if I insist on an 8800GT? Does ATi offer anything cheaper that works almost as well? I'm rather confused at the moment. Thank you very much in advance for any suggestions/recommendations/info.
 
E4500 @ 5K

Abit IP-35-E @ 5.7K

Seagate Barracuda 250GB @ 2.8K

Lite-ON (Sata) 20X DVD-RW @ 1.4K

RAM: 2X1GB Transcend 800Mhz @ 2K

Gfx card: ATI 3850 @ 10K

Cabine: Zebronics Bijli without SMPS (1K)

PSU: POV Black Diamond 500W @ 2.9K

Keyboard+Mouse @ .7K

Total 31.5K

If it's above your budget get Powersafe PSU for 1.7K instead of POV one. 3850 is more than enough if you have a monitor not bigger than 19" (native res 1440X900 widescreen). At 10K it's a good VFM though 8800GT is definately a lot more powerful card. But GT also costs a little more.

BTW, the prices that I have quoted are from ITWares in Mumbai. But these are the maximum prices that you should pay unless you are willing to pay Computerwallah more than his due share

^Thank you very much morgoth. However, is an E4500 enough for gaming? Also, I really want to remove stuff from that rig to fit in the 8800GT. Like I said, I will be getting a different monitor later on. I won't be going over 19inch but I'd like to run games with atleast 4xAA since I can't stand jagged edges :P Will the 3850 be able to handle this and give me decent fps?

@amdlover. Why do you assume that I didn't? I've been on this site for a while now and I know that searching is the first and best thing to do before starting a thread. However, the other thread starters had a budget of 30k including monitor and weren't insistent on an 8800GT. Lets say that I'm trying to build a rig around this card.

Get at least an E6550 or 6750... U're not doin justice with E4500...

As a matter of reference look at this benchie with an 8800GTX;
Its an E4300v/s E6550 but see the humongous difference in UT2..

in case you're not overclocking, why not get something AMD? The X2 5200+ gives E6550ish performance at the E4500 price. And you can save on the motherboards as well
 
bottlenecking myths

anyways you don't need more than 60 fps,since your monitor won't refresh more than that,its the biggest bottleneck in your system

a decent enough mobo would help you too.
finally don't compromise on gpu to get a better cpu,differences will be minimal going from a x2 to c2d and from a c2d to a higher c2d but 8800gt would just trample over the 3850.

3850 is a very good card. see here how it compares to 8600GTS

But yes it is not 8800GT.

If you want 8800GT with your budget, the best option for you to go with AMD processor.
Keeping everything same, here is AMD config

Athlon X2 5200+ @ 5.5K
Asus M2A - VM @ 3.2K
MSI 8800GT OC @ 14.5K
Rest is same

Total will be something like 32K (did not checked) :P
 
the X2 5200+ costs 4.9k at delta :D

and you can put in an nvidia chipset motherboard, say an M2N MX , which costs 2.5k

and that knocks the price down by a total of 1.3k . In addition, since the onboard is also nvidia, so you can swap the card in and out without messing with the drivers :D

Here's what I bought.

E6550

MSI P6NGM - Nvidia MCP73 Series Chipset Motherboard. (Think I made a mistake with this one but I couldn't find anything else better)

MSI 8800GT 512mb

2x1gb Transcend 800Mhz RAM

CoolerMaster Extreme Power Plus 500W (I hope that's enough for my card)

My friend gave me his 160gb SATA Seagate Barracuda and that's enough for now.

^Sorry about that. I didn't really want to spend more than 30k but once I went to the shop I couldn't resist. I think I might have been charged a little extra too :<

There are PLENTY of monitors which refresh more than that at 'gaming' resolutions like 640x480 and 800x600. Playing games like Quake 3 seriously at 60fps is pointless.

heh never mind. i thought you were speaking in general and no, the 8800GT is indeed for next gen games at high res.

I'm at work now so I can only give you estimates. Will check the bill later. However, I did end up spending more than I should. I didn't know where to go to get the best prices.

E6550 - 7k

Mobo - 7k

MSI 8800GT OC - 15k

CoolerMaster 500W - 3.5k

2 gigs Transcend RAM 800mhz - 2.1k
