Hey friends,

My dad needs a laptop within the next 2 days from Delhi .. he will use it for maybe 30days and then will it give to me .. so basically the laptop will be for me :D

I will use it for gaming (cs, gta:sa, battle field kind of) and sometimes for 3D renderings.

Please suggest me a good laptop .. i dont hv ANY idea in which laptop to go for.

I hv heard Dell's notebooks are good .. but like i said .. my dad needs to purchase it in less than 2 days and it will take time if we buy it from dell.

Are there any Dell sellers where we can buy laptops from?

Our budget is 50-75k max ... but my dad's friend recommended him a Sony laptop which are usually really costly .. so my dad may exceed his budget upto 1lakh .. but still since i am not sure .. please find me a laptop within 50-75k range.

My prefereces are :

Atleast 17" screen
upto 1-2gb ram (upgradable to 4gb)
a good gfx card. (option to upgrade it later)
A good proccy (dual core or quad :P)

I really hope you tech gurus can help me here.

Thanks in advance to all and hope to get some quick answers :)

if you get a 17" your dad will give it to you in less then a week, unless he has an assistant carrying his brief case etc. :ohyeah:

As you can see from my signature, I am a Dell fan, and the earliest you can hope for in dell is 7 days. you can get their top of the line inspiron with 17" 1920x1200 resolution for ~90k (after haggling)

When buying a lappy make sure you 3 yrs warranty.

Go to a local dealer n tell us some of d configs u came across n liked,,

Also dependin on d place u live u may get old channel stock,, so maybe u can call HP helpline or visit d indian site,,, cause wen i went abt a week back all i was shown was core duo laps,,,

Hey India And monger ... thanks for your replies .. but dell is not possible right now :(

Does any one know how much does that Toshiba laptop costs ?

Also how is Hp pavillion dv9500 ?
HP Pavilion dv9500 Entertainment Notebook PC series specifications - HP Home & Home Office products

Is it easily upgradable ?

Please i need quick help here :(

The only thing generally upgradable in a lappy is the RAM and HDD, beyond that, you are SOOL.

About their prices, it really depends on when you are buying, call up HP and Toshiba, knock of 10-15% and you will get the street price I get.

Always keep in mind the 3 yr warranty,

Thanks Indian .. so gfx card are not upgradable ? :o specially if i go for hp dv9500 ?

Vnerd .. any idea how much does the lenovo t61 cost ?

Btw "toshiba Qosmio G/30" costs 165k .. thats too much :/

^^ The above lappy looks good .. except for the screen size.

But i am always skeptical about chinese made products .. they somehow always give problems very soon after the purchase.

So let me know if lenovo would be wise to go with.

Also pls tell me how is hp dv9500 laptop ? can we upgrade the gfx card, rams, hdds to make it a good gaming/rendering laptop for future ?

In theory they are upgradeable - in practice no.

As you can see from my signature, I have a pretty decent card in my notebook (2 yrs old) - it is seperate from the mobo, but its not a standard card that I can buy from the mkt and plugin, therefore no use outside my machine - Custom designed for the machine. I could take it out and throw it away and ask dell for new card current model (if it fits my mobo) - they will charge a bomb for it - so its not really practical.

Are you sure you got the price right on the Toshiba ? Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV600 17" TFT Notebook: Compare Prices, View Price History and Read Reviews at NexTag based on this - will not be over a lac in india -

btw did u consider flying to malaysia for the weekend and coming back with a notebook? It will be cheaper then buying one in India for high end notebooks + the bonus is a holiday :D

Where did you get that custom card from? and how much did it cost? Also if this is a custom built card, what about the availability of drivers?

Would it be possible to get a newer video card for a laptop?

He was talking about a hypothetical scenario :P Not posible to get a custom card. Gfx on a notebook is almost never possible to upgrade.

Hey buddy its like dis,, The whole dynamics of a laptop changes if u add a component thats 1inch thicker or thinner,,, If u change the gphx card or anythin , den ul be charged a BOmB,, n more often den not u'l end up havin overheating, compatiblity N performance issues n all,,

SO best go for somethin dats good from d start leavin out ram n hdd,,I tell u why cause, wid laptop, d ram n hdd warranty is 1yr(or more if u purchase more) but wen u go for other brands, rate may be d same,,but d warranty is usually 3 to 5 yrs,,,so be careful, take some time and analyse these things,,:cool2: :cool2:

N don go for AMd,, COre 2duo r in trend,,, N actually well priced in comparison to performance,,
N now dat price is not d issue,, den jus imagine u tellin ur girlfriend u have a COre 2 duo who ad she seen on tv ,, she'l be proud of u buddy!!!

lol
ok forget d last bit,,,
try lookin at acer too,,, some kickass models,,don worry abt service,, jus check if u hav a service center,, if u hav den service is not a prob,,,,

lenovo config suggested:-

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.73 GHz
Chipset: Intel 945GM
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Basic

Memory: 2 GB
Hard Disk Drive: 160 GB SATA HDD

Others: Bluetooth,Camera, 5 in 1 media card reader (SD, MMC, MS, XD,SD Pro).
Carry Case: Yes
Battery (backup): 6 cell
Warranty: 1-year CCI warranty
Now i tell u wat i got lower hdd(80gb), Lower ram 1gb, same gphxcard but 128 GDDR3memory,, WIfI-N, 9cell battery,, n Proc is one lower @t5470 from dell @43700,, (go for vostro1400 dere's one 39600 sumtin one,,, min eis 1400n):D :D :D :D
OS get dis straight,, Dese r severely overpriced,,,:bleh: :bleh:  if u can wait go for dell,,,prob next week dey'l have a price cut(dats wat dere agent told me),, N i ThInK u can ask d guy to make d delivery fast,,, i think Maybe he'l charge u more but i hope not as high as lenovo n all,,,
CIAO..

Notebooks, dont ever get one without 3 yrs warranty, especially the high end ones, And Dell service rocks, Service@home :D

Fly out to malaysia (with gf) - party all week end, pick up notebook, come back to India.

Cheaper then buying a high end notebook here. :D

@ indian: buddy flying over to malaysia or wherever doesnt make sense even if u plan to buy a 1-1.5lac notebookk. Cause trust me goin over (flight)+ hotel + food + freakin airport taxes ( prob anywher from 8-15k) + visa + local transport , all these expenses would cross 50k easily per person leave alone the gf..

anyways over here the question is for a 50-75k so forget the idea of goin anywhere..
