I once bought a landline phone from manish market Mumbai which had this facility though I dint need it. I tried it and it worked as well. Came with 2 cassettes. This was in year 2002 if I remember. It had tons of features one of which i used for call forwarding...and then record the call to leave a voice message if any call was missed. It used to prompt the caller.
All timings could be specified..recording, waiting, missed, etc..
Best part was i got that for just 600 bucks. Steal-a-deal!!
