A friend of mine will need a laptop for basic document editing, net surfing and powerpoint presentations. He'll be getting it through his sister who is in North Carolina, US of A. His maximum budget is around 500 US$. In all probability, I think he'll only get a netbook at this price range. I need suggestions from TE members regarding the following.
1. Which is the best VFM notebook at this price range? Should I stick to only Atom netbooks or is a Via processor also good enough? Portability is not an issue, but no 7" screen laptops... They are too small. And it should be able to run XP comfortably. And if possible, something that has good support in India too.
2. Which is the best store to get it from? I'm totally ignorant in this area. Should I settle for a retail store or do I order it online? I also need suggestions for reliable stores in either of these categories.
3. Purchase will be made sometime in the middle or fag end of October. Can I expect a price drop or worthy new models until then?
