Hi my friend is goin to join an animation course by august so he needs a laptop.

He won't be playing games.

He needs it for using MAYA
He also surfs the net. so need good connectivity too.(a webcam'ld be fine too)

He needs to use it all the time(not 24 hrs but he really uses the PC for a long time say 12-14hrs a day)
He is at home so he doesn't need to travel that much.

He doesn't want a multimedia laptop.

Again, his main intention is to use MAYA.

Do list the possible laptops available with their prices.
He is not that rich so he wants something which not that costly, not that good looking. give the cheapest laptops that provide him with the requirements above.

List all the ones that are below 60k.

60K is a good budget.. not cheap in any way.. :D
At this budget you could get a customised Dell 1520 or a HPdv2500.. Spend some more and you get an Acer Gemstone.. but not sure of its availability in India now though..
Your main criterion should be the GFx card.. so go for one which features the latest Nvidia Geforce 8600 cards..

can you install gfx card in existing laptops?

could u tell me another cheap laptop that uses amd processor? its for another friend. he just wants to use MAYA(we all are in the same class).

his budget is max 30-35k.

@gary4gar: Nopes. Not in the normal ones. Some rare high tech Alienware/XPS models had some compatible option i believe but not for anything else. sorry... :D

@ajo_alex: goto dell india site and check configs. You can then call yhem up on the toll free number provided on the site. Get them to give it to you for the MRP mentioned after including the TAX and delivery charges in it only :)

Cheapest will be any AMD X2 based dual core lappy. Will fit in 30-35k budgets. Check compaq/HP and Dell models. Dell is inspiron 1521 and one new vostro series model too.

Not true. Newer generation Barebones laptops from Asus (C90), Compal (IFL90) & Clevo all feature user replacable Gfx cards which you upgrade easily. But availability in India is well :ohyeah:

Also, if you are looking to run Maya and other such rendering software, makes more sense to look at laptops with nVidia Quadro cards instead of GeForce cards, though that would make it more expensive.
