Looking for a portable multimedia storage device for direct transfer from a SD card.

My father needs one as he is always very busy with his cameras. The idea is to be able to empty the memory cards on the run without having to carry a bulky device, like say a laptop.

Also it should have a LCD screen for viewing the files.

One good product that I was able to find was Amazon.com: Epson P-3000 40GB Multimedia Storage Drive, Viewer, and Audio-Video Player w/ 4-Inch LCD: Camera & Photo

My queries:
Is this available in India?
For how much?
Are there any alternatives for the Epson product?
Are there any alternatives which can serve the above mentioned requirements?

Oh and it is extremely urgent

The Epson is the only one I have heard of, and have used it at a store as well and it was pretty impressive. Good transfer rates, decent LCD and some nifty features.

The Epson is available in India, check up here :

Where to buy

People, heres something you missed out:

The creative zen vision W :ohyeah: I use one and its a great PVP. 30Gb and 60Gb versions :)

+ it has a compactflash slot. All you need is a converter they sell as an accessory, after that you can use it with any SD,pro duo, Xd cards etc :yay: I have that and its a lifesaver if your card fills up during a trip ;)

480X272 res (approx.) 4.5" widescreen :D

P.S.: lemme kno if u need more info ;)

@Anish - thanks, will talk to the distris. Though I have a feeling it is insanely priced in India.

@techie - thanks man, that seems like a very good option. Will check out the details. Do let me know if you have any idea about the street prices for the device and the convertor.

i use one of these
USBGEEK.COM

very cheap (had got it for 1.8k from sg), am using a 80gb lappy hdd inside. It supports almost any card out there, transfer rate is awesome, has a li-ion battery so battery life is good and has a wall charger too
u can get it thru kmd

@chaos and rambo - I agree too, but the epson device would have doubled up as a PMP too.

@appo- Thats a nice and handy device. Thanks!

Lets see which option suits him best :)

1. the creative is wayyyyyyyy better n cheaper than the epson. Street prices in india: around 18-20k with warranty :) considerably cheaper if u can get it in the US. though u ll have to look for it there. doesnt seem to be in stock very much now :( the converter i think u ll need to get thru kmd ;)

2. +1 for apo's suggestion for ur purposes. much much cheaper n useful :) i say go for that if u dont want a pmp. the savings are astronomical :P

^ Eh? He'll need a CF card slot mate, besides I don't think he needs a Tablet, just a device to copy, view and store images on the go.

@ Ren - If your dad is into photography professionally then I think it makes sense for him to get the Epson as I would NEVER trust my priceless images on some cheapo usbgeek device.

^ You can connect your digicam directly to the n800 via USB :) Then, upload them immediately via wifi or thru your phone :ohyeah: Of course, this may not meet his dad's needs...its what I would have gone for personally.

^ True that, but transfer speeds are pretty slow via USB, especially when your transferring 2-4GB of RAW files :(

Neat device the N800 is btw, when's yours getting delivered? :D
