Hi all,

Two days back finally I got AL MX5021 :hap2:

I have read the music playback guide and have installed foobar with told plug-ins.

My onboard sound is Realtek ALC882 High Definition Audio 8-channel CODEC.

Can anybody suggest me a sound card if the priority is music only and a couple of movies on weekend with absolutely no gaming.

Please suggest the best VFM sound card which can draw best music out of MX5021.

both should be about 2k. there shouldnt be much diff, but the audigy has better drivers

if you can spare about 5k, the audigy2ZS is there :)

This is from the foobar FAQs.. just quoting them in case you had any misconception.
  • Q: Does foobar2000 sound better than other players?
  • A: No. Most of “sound quality differences†people “hear†are placebo effect (at least with real music), as actual differences in produced sound data are below their noise floor (1 or 2 last bits in 16bit samples). Foobar2000 has sound processing features such as software resampling or 24bit output on new high-end soundcards, but most of other mainstream players are capable of doing the same by now.
  • Q: My bass is much deeper than yours!
  • A: My bass can walk right through the floor.

I have a spare M-Audio Transit USB DAC for sale.

PM me if interested.

I think Chaos also had a M-Audio audiophile USB DAC for sale in the market section

Do keep in mind that the stereo sound quality of a good USB DAC will in general be better than a PCI sound card....

However, USB DACs are usually not meant for 5.1 playback

Just that you can use any (latest version) software for playing music. Foobar does not make any difference.

foobar doesnt exactly sound better... but is easier to do the tweaks i mentioned in the guide in foo... much easier than winamp :)

well you dont *need* the 2zs or the revolution for the MX's.. the audigy2 value would do fine. i was just pointing out *if* you have an expandable budget, teh M audio card is a very good one.

then for what those cards are? are those for gaming/surround?

then in what aspect M Audio is good? surround or music?

speaking specifically of M Audio, its a semi pro and pro audio equipment manufacturer. ive used their mainstream cards for recording such as the Delta 1010 LT and the Audiophile 192.

the revolution series is basically for the music/movie watching segment. but with my experience of their pro cards i can tell you the quality is top notch.

btw here's the link to the revolution 7.1 specs on the M-audio site

EDIT: be warned, im an M audio fan, i can be terribly opinionated at times ;)

Audigy cards are among the best buys for that price if you are into gaming.

But as you have said you are not into gaming, I too suggest the M-Audio if you could stretch your budget. M-Audio Revo is an amazing card.

Zhopudey had a modified one for sale. He had modified the op-amps replacing the standard ones with higher quality ones
