Shopify’s CEO just dropped a memo saying teams need to prove AI can’t do something before hiring anyone or asking for more resources. How long before we start seeing major impact on indian service based companies where CEOs' here start pushing for AI more. In my company we already are seeing significant push to incorporate AI but that is currently limited to generic tasks. Access to codebases hasn't been given yet.

Trump has already ruined job market and now this. I was expecting a runway till 45 to last in IT, seems AI will take out 5 more years from it

This is fairly standard approach. This is not particularly new from an IT service co perspective. Shopify is not a pure tech company doing only product development. They have customer service, finance, data, infrastructure etc teams today where I'm sure there is automation potential. I wouldn't read this as something that's going to kill IT.

The big question here is, at what cost? Often it's cheaper to hire some guy in a third world country than building a bot that can handle a minimum viable scope. At what volume does it break even. Automation is complicated.

The AI though it is a boon in many fields but personally I hate the AI in some places. Imagine someone who needs to speak to a human customer executive and the company instead gives the AI to reply to your queries. They still don't have the human touch or compassion.
