Dont know from MUmbai, but there are trains which i think run every thursday from Mysore, or Bangalore every day. FLights have to be taken from Bangalore. There might be private buses from Mysore to Mumbai on Fridays. So a similar deal will be from Mumbai. Check irctc.co.in and ksrtc.in for travel needs.
2) Initially her parents also going to accommodate here. So which decent hotel they can go and stay.
Depends on your budget. I would suggest hotels near the railway station.

This info will be given in her offer letter. Please go through it. AFAIK she will be given hostel accomodation for her whole course of training. This is a world class facility, so she will stay very comfortably in the campus here.
4) Which is the best and safe area to stay considering she is a female and commuting should be easier.
Out of discusssion, as accomodation is provided. If its not provieded that Gokulam area is very safe for girls.
5) How is the food and restaurants there. Which should be preferred.
Again there is a variety of offerings, and depends on her tastebuds. Once she joins the company she will get all that info through word of mouth.
6) How are the people and public atmosphere in Mysore.
Very friendly and helping. Most speak the local language Kannada and broken bits of Hindi and English.
About Infy
6) What is the training syllabus
World class again and depends on which stream she will be put into(Java, .net etc)
7) Considering she has done B.Sc IT, what kind of work she could get after completing the training
Cant say really, depends on the business requirements when she finishes training.
8) After training where will they normally depute her.
Depends on the business requirement and availability in the DC's. She will probably get Pune or Mysore itself from the trend i am currently seeing. She can always swap her postings with other willing candidates to a place of her choice.
9 What are the various hurdles/test/certification she will have to clear in training
Hardwork,Hardwork and more Hardwork.
10) Any other valuable advice for her, please share
Focus on the training, do what you are told, get in good company, enjoy your stay in the mysore campus by using all the facilities provided.

>> Direct trains/flights are available plenty to bangalore. From Bangalore, you can either take a bus / cab / train to Mysore. The distance is 140km.
2) Initially her parents also going to accommodate here. So which decent hotel they can go and stay.
>> Plenty of good hotels available in Mysore as its also a tourist place. If you want to stay closer to the Infy campus, there's a nearby hotel peridot - may be a bit costlier though. I believe Infy will send a mail to your cousin and also attach an xls file containing important info. That will also contain a large list of hotels.

Next Questions....Accommodation

3) Where she can stay, does Infy provide hostel facilities or any PG available.
>> During the training, they will provide really good hostel. Their mysore campus is probably the best campus in India.
4) Which is the best and safe area to stay considering she is a female and commuting should be easier.
>> Moot point
5) How is the food and restaurants there. Which should be preferred.
>> Food is pretty good in Mysore. Although Infy campus is about 12km from the main city, lots of volvo buses are available. Besides, there's a couple of good Dhabas n restaurants just outside of the campus. There are also 9 food courts in the campus.
6) How are the people and public atmosphere in Mysore.
>> Seemed pretty good to me. But I don't think your cousin will get out of the campus a lot.

About Infy

6) What is the training syllabus
>> Normally there are two parts in the training. 1st part is intermediate which contains usual basic programming. RDBMS, OS, Data Structure Algo, networking, Unix etc. After that 1st compre with 100 in theory and 100 hands on. This will cover the entire Intermediate syllabi. Then she will be put into some stream Java/.Net/Mainframe/Open Systems etc and similary some more modules and final compre.
7) Considering she has done B.Sc IT, what kind of work she could get after completing the training
>> Could be anything. No guarantee here.
8) After training where will they normally depute her.
>> Anywhere among all the India DCs.
9 What are the various hurdles/test/certification she will have to clear in training
>> For each modules, they will have a module test. There will be two major tests in the two phase. Compre - 1 and 2 .
10) Any other valuable advice for her, please share
>> No need to be nervous. Ask her to enjoy the training life. That will be the best time in Infy or in the whole worklife.

Will add more questions soon.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your answers sabby and slash84

Any hotels for staying you can recommend so that they can pre-book the rooms and can relax and go...Budget will be decent hotel and stay...a/c is required

@sabby @slash84
1 more question. When she will be staying at the infosys campus can she keep a laptop for personal use, i mean at her hostel only. She will be not be carrying this at her workplace, as i know there its not allowed laptop and pendrives.

@irfanlai No, Laptops are not allowed but that's about it. Don't go by the rumors that high end phones / smart phones are not allowed. Those are craps. I even heard XBOX/PS3 are allowed. I saw people taking guitar and other musical instruments taking to the hostel without problems. Ask her to send a mail to the HR about the list of things that are not allowed to take in Campus/Hostels while joining. And btw, whenever someone enters the campus, their bags are scanned thru' Xray machines like airports. General electronic gadgets like Camera etc are allowed, but a receipt is given for those at the time of joining and whenever taking those in/out of the campus, you are supposed to produce the receipt.

IIRC, BSc grads were given Asst Software engineer (ask her to check her offer letter) and they used to be put into Infrastructure support or Testing projects - No development work. Between the two, testing is better, as there are no shifts etc, But my info on infy is pretty dated, others might want to comment

@other infy wallahs, I heard that they're not able to source enough talent that they've decided not to fire anyone who flunks the tests and do it 2005 ishtyle (ie as many recompres as needed?)

That actually depends on the project/location. My sister works with Infy (Hyderabad) and before she went onsite, she was not allowed to take a Camara phone inside their work area over here in the Infy campus. I explicitly bought her a cheap Camera-less Corby for that very reason. She has to deposit her smartphone which has a camera outside with the security.

Actually, the above information holds true in the training facilities. And as sabby said its the laptops and other storage media that is forbidden and not the gadgets like an ipod or any highend phones and also the camera has any restrictions to be carried inside. but the pupil is supposed to declare them during the entry day itself.

you are right as well, but it holds good once the persson is out onto production.

^^ As i said it depends on the project. My sister was no trainee. She joined infy as a technology analyst and later became a tech lead. My sister used to take her smartphone when she first joined, but after getting assigned to a particular project, she had to get camera-less phone. None of the people in her team were allowed to take camera phones. Note that they can take them inside the campus by all means, but not inside their work area. This is not just for my sister either. One of my friends also had this happen at a different infy campus when he was working on one project. I guess this may be a condition imposed by certain clients.

Indians dont have a very good reputation for professional confidentiality and often indians have abused their position for monetary gain. So, such restrictions may be a result of that.

Your sister was probably working in a ODC ( Offshore Development Center) and yes in such cases many a times the client requires such things like no camera phones etc.

Btw 7 years in Infosys (still here) and I never been to Mysore DC :D

My post was related to the OP's query about things that are allowed in the hostel in Mysore campus. For production (infy term for non training workplace, where people work on real projects :P), it depends on projects as you said. Certain clients like Lexis-Nexis / British Telecom are very strict about what are allowed in the workplace.

You should have been there before man, last time I visited the campus, over a year ago, they were raising buildings everywhere :| Still worth a visit though.
