I'm getting myself a new PC, specs are:

Seagate 1TB

Sapphire 6950 Toxic

i5 2500k

Intel DP67BG3

G-Skill Ripjaws 2x4GB DDR3

Sony DVD writer

Coolermaster Hyper 200+ cpu fan

Corsair 650TXV2

1) Is the Corsair 650 TXV2 enough for this build?

2) What UPS should I get? Budget 1-2k. It should be able to last about 5-7 minutes while the pc is under full load and be durable.

3) I currently have this (specs 16.6" (H) x 7.8" (W) x 16.5 (D)) cabinet, is it alright? If not, what are my options in the 1-2k range? What exactly are the benefits of buying a more expensive cabinet?

Edit: Link for cabinet added.

1. Corsair TX650v2 should be more than enough.

2. No idea on UPS, have never bought one

3. What cabinet? Not mentioned? The benefits of buying a bigger and better cabinet with more airflow (read "expensive", but not always) is that it keeps the temps down. ALso adding a card such as the 6950 requires a big cabby. Finally, space for more HDDs.

1) The Corsair TX V2 650W, should be able to take this load and still have some power in reserve for future upgrades [extra hard-disk, couple of fans].

2) Please increase your budget for the UPS and purchase the APC BR1100VA-IN ~ 4600/- [inclusive taxes], others will tell you to get a sine-wave UPS but the basic models will set you back by ~ 6000/-.

3) You haven't mentioned your cabinet, so no comments reserved?

A good cabinet is a mix of good airflow, aesthetic appeal [very important], cavernous interiors [very important for peripherals to breath easy and hard drive expansion slots]. A good cabinet for you'll be the --

NZXT Gamma ~ 2100/- + 2 x 120 mm fans [to set up an airflow system] OR

NZXT Source 210 ~ 2400/- + 2 x 120mm fans Buy NZXT Source 210 Black Mid Tower Cabinet in Mumbai India.

Hope this helps, Sire. Cheers!!

An APC 600va should suffice for 5-7 minutes.. i believe there is no need for 1kva ones.

for case as alpha says nzxt gamma is great.

No, an APC 650VA cannot support my friends VX 550W powered RIG [AMD Phenom IIx4 + HD 5850 + 1 x 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 + 4 x 120mm fans], even his APC 1.1KVA model has got fried two-three times due to the wiring, so to be safe OP should get a 1KVA UPS at the minimum from my experience.

Added link to cabinet in OP.

I currently have non-functioning UPS whose only role is to connect the monitor and cabinet to the power plug. The thing is I think there should be a safeguard for a mid-high end system so as to prevent it from frying in case of power outage. How much of a risk do power outages and voltage fluctuations pose? Alternatively, is having a UPS absolutely crucial?

The thing is, that I already am way over my initial budget, so, yea, I am willing to do with the bare minimum.

Hey, thanks! I'll look them up.

1. Get the Corsair TX650 v2, awesome PSU, I am using it, will suffice ur future needs as well.

2. Get atleast a 1KvA UPS, I got the APC 1.1KVA this week, Its quite good.

Anyway, what's the difference between the two. Hate being blasphemous but cabinet aesthetics don't really matter much to me. Also, could you guys list some alternatives, apparently the NZXT cabinets aren't available around where I live? I could order them online if they are better than the competition at this price range.

One more thing, seeing that the reason I want a UPS is to keep me system from frying rather providing any backup, would a surge protector do the job? If not, then the APC it is.

cabinet CM Enforcer max price should be 5600 (Latest)

APC 1.1 KVA UPS is best UPS, since u need 5-7 Min backup while full load then u must go for it maximum price should be around 4800.

for more load and backup have a look here

There's this sticky that says problems may arise while using APS UPS's with Corsair or other high-end PSU's, anyone want to comment on that?

I have been using APC with corsair for almost a year without any issues , there is a faint buzzing sound when the ups is in backup mode , my ups isn't used much because of very few power cuts here.

^Righto. One last thing, if anyone could answer these two me:

NZXT cabinets trash Cooler Master eLite series by a long margin [much better airflow and interior space management, also they have rubber gromets for seamless wire routing], up till the NZXT TEMPEST EVO, the NZXT line-up pretty much trashes everything.

Get a good APC UPS and a decent spike buster [Belkin or some such], much better to be safe than sorry.

That is the Corsair SMPS begging for a pure Sine wave based UPS, most VX and TX series SMPS's require a Pure-Sine UPS, my friend freeze here, has RMA-ed his APC 1.1 KVA 2 times and this he uses to power a RIG with a Corsair VX 550W.

It would have been better if you would have created this thread in PC buying section... Plus instead of that intel P67 chipset motherboard you can buy a Z68 chipset motherboard for 8.9k...

Thanks again for clarifying a lot of things for me, man. So, would it be a significant improvement to get the more expensive NZXT models like, say, the H2 Classic Silent, Guardian 921 RB, 210 Elite or the Tempest EVO?

So, a just a surge protector won't do the job?
