Graphic Cards Need advice regarding graphic card

Consider I have offers of the following
EVGA GTX 260 216
and
ati hd palit sonic dual edition 4870 512Mb

Which do you think is better for games like
Battlefield 3
witcher
and latest games

The above card will be used in a secondary rig of mine.
I would like suggestions from members who have actually used the above cards.
 
well I had a GTX 260 216 once so I can definitely say that it plays crysis 2, BF3 & witcher 2 well at high settings without AA and at 1080p. BTW by well I mean that you will average 40ish in terms of framerates. The HD 4870 512 is actually slower than the gtx 260 because its crippled at high resolutions or high settings by the lesser vram.

So if you have to chose between the two, go with the gtx 260. Just make sure you dont end up paying more as a good pre-OC gtx 260 should cost around 3.7-4k depending on the warranty left.

Dude gtx 260 does not have 1 gb ram simply because it cant have 1 gb ram :P. It has a 448 bit memory bus, so it can either have 896 mb ram or 1792 mb ram. though the latter amount is found only in the msi lightning model.

On the second aspect, I have to disagree. Performance wise both the 4870 and the 260 are more or less the same, although with more recent games like, crysis 2, dead space 2, bad company 2, bf3, deus ex hr, skyrim, witcher 2, arkham city etc, the gtx 260 has the performance advantage. However I dont have a 4870 to make a direct comparison myself, so compared to the HD5830 (which I briefly had), the gtx 260 is equal or faster.

260 is a much better choice. Although if you can find a HD 4890 for around the same price, go for that.

Yeah, realised that later when OP PMed me. Got a review on the net, which showed that the 260 was better than the 4870. Plus the extra VRAM has to help, although it is quite small.
