Hello folks..

i am planning to upgrade my compaq laptop mobile processor. Reason being i want the laptop to play 720p and may be 1080p files.

the graphic card is onboard and is Mobile Intel 965 express chipset family ( 256 megabytes). So using hardware acceleration is not much of an option.

I need inputs so that i do not screw up my laptop..here is some info.

Ram is DDR2 single 1gb.

can the bios pose some limitations on my upgrade, what are the processor options i have..will any socket p processor do the job..

Advice please:huh:

Have you thought of the broadcom chip? I think Vasishta had a thread here about how he added one to his netbook to be able to play HD on it.
Not sure what the slot it used was.. maybe PCIE..

mini PCIe it is.

This is the link of the card - Broadcom.com - BCM70015 - Single-Chip High Definition Advanced Media Processor

And yeah most laptops should sport at least one mini PCIe slot. The wifi card should be plugged into one of these slot(s). Some may have a couple. So in case there's just one slot and the wifi card is plugged into it, you can remove that and plug the Broadcom crystal HD chip into it.
