Hi all,

I have 2 weeks to go till I bring home my final decision.
But before that, I need your two-cents!

Usage:

I am mostly (and always) listening to EDM, as I am a music reviewer of trance. So recognizing synths, hits, kicks and bass lines becomes extremely vital for me. I own very basic Altec Lansing speakers and since the left one has gone mute, I am looking out for new ones.

Budget:

5k Max

Looking for:

2.1 setup

Locked so far:

Altec Lansing VS4121
Edifier C2/C3 (?)
Philips MMS430

Also, yes, I am a big-time bass addict. :ohyeah:

Definitely Edifier C3:)

The Edifier C3 is a pretty unique PC multimedia speaker system. Unlike conventional 2.1 multimedia speaker system, the Edifier C3 is a separate-component speaker system. This means its amplifier is separate from the subwoofer with its own enclosure.

This has several advantages, from giving you total freedom in placing the subwoofer to easier access to the amplifier controls. Separating the amplifier from the subwoofer also improves its heat dissipation since the amplifier does not need to share the cramp subwoofer enclosure with the bass driver.

The Edifier C3 speaker system is well-designed with easy-to-use connectors, extra input and output ports and a remote control. Its build quality is excellent but the use of medium-density fibreboard (MDF) in the construction of the satellite speakers and subwoofer do make them somewhat fragile. Care should be taken when transporting or moving them around.

The Edifier C3's key advantages are its value-added features. So, if you are looking for these features in a 2.1 speaker system, you should definitely take a look at the Edifier C3.

If possible increase your budget by 1.7k and can get the Altec Lansing MX 5021 .These are one of the best and legendary 2.1 speakers .

Or else try and get a good second hand deal on the 5021,if modded even more better.

By the way this is coming from a fellow trance fanatic , using MX-5021 with Xonar DX sound card. Trance never sounded so detailed and amazing.

The Edifier C3 is a good bet, I'd rate it over the cheaper Altecs. If you can get the 5021, nothing like it.

Btw, what site do you review on?

Thanks for your feedback so far. My friend already owns MX 5021, yes it's mighty! But I need something different from what he already owns. I am kinda desperate for C3. Also, I don't want to invest in a sound card now. But in case, if someone has a different opinion and can put forward a nice set of speakers for my enlightenment :)

@ Anish, please check Trance Hub dot com.

how about Logitech Z2300 for tonnes of bass??

and I own MX-5021 and don't neglect it just coz your friend has one!!!

^^ Never and I repeat never go by specs when it comes to music. The EP-630 has a frequency response starting at 6 hz ! Its better than even the HD 800 if you believe that to be true !

isnt the z2300 have 200w rms?and afaik 5021 has 90w

yes. as I said, it has massive subwoofer with 120 watts RMS. But the satellite's performance is nowhere near to performance offered by MX-5021's satellites.

A sound card is a MUST!!!

My friend's MX-5021 sound inferior to My [VS4121 + SB Live!]

What are you saying man!:ohyeah:

So if I go for Audigy Value + AL VS4121, will it do any better? I am still clueless though... and as far as I am aware, the prices of Edifier C3 has dropped down too?

ok...thanx for the input!!

Got Altec Lansing VS4121, not too happy with it because my ears start paining after listening to it.

The bass is just too much for my ears.

I think I should try keeping the speakers a bit farther than it is now, next to my desktop.
