Hi guys maybe i might sound foolish but that maybe it, i am planning on upgrading my system as i have an intel DG33FB and Intel E6550 which i am sick and tired off coz its overheating and giving me expenses i cant stay with.
I, therefore, have this in mind:
1. Board and cpu for 10k

2. Board any AMD or Gigabyte

3. CPU x6

4. Board supports onboard grfx
Pls keep in mind, this system only for home use. NO GAMING, coz i dont game.
thanks

The cheapest X6 is AMD Phenom II X6 - 1055T which costs 8400 (from deltapage.com).

increase your budget if you are strict on that X6 requirement. You can get a decent motherboard for the X6 for 4-6k.
Another expense would be to buy DDR3 RAM as your current DDR2 ones will not be compatible.
2GB DDR3 will be around 1.1-1.2k and 4GB DDR3 will be around 2.2-2.3k.

For home usage even athlon II 640 wud b more than enough... And in ur budget u wudn't b able to get an x6 combo... So i wud suggest u to buy this
CPU - AMD Athlon II x4 640 ~ 4300
Motherboard - Gigabyte 880GM-UD2H/ 785GMT-US2H/ 880GA-UD3H (USB3 + SATA3) ~ 3900/3400/5500
RAM - Corsair DDR3 Value Ram 1333mhz CL9 2Gb ~ 1050
Total: 9250/8750/10850

my pc vendor suggests the followind

core i3cpu 540/lga 1156 3.06ghz 4mb cache asus p7h55-m

is this worth going for, he says its for about approx 9k

pls advise

thanks

That is almost the other end of your first post's requests. No X6, no AMD/Gigabyte board.
You can get loads of combinations for any price points.

what are your exact requirements? are you not forgetting the RAM or do you already have that?

Hi,

No am not shedding for ram coz i already have ddr2 am on a very tight budget 10k

Buddy the combo that ur vendor suggested u even requires DDR3 RAM... The combo that he suggested is not compatible wid ddr2 ram...
Go wid the combo that i suggested it completely fits in ur budget and its powerful than the combo ur vendor suggested... Athlon II x4 640 outperforms i3 540 in gaming as well as in multi threaded apps... And a quadcore wud serve u longer than a dual core processor...

THe i3 540 gets demolished by a AMD Athlon IIX4 640 and the price point is sweeter and haven't you noticed that DDR III RAM will be needed definetly for a Intel Core series processor (no backward compatibility on Intel). If you're so low on budget and want the DDR II RAM you have to soldier on for some more time, then go for a ASUS M4A78L ME (760G chipset + DDR II support) + AMD Athlon IIx4 640.

Bench - CPU - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News - comparison of Core i3 540 vs. AMD Athlon IIx4, the quad-core puts the neophyte Core i3 in a flux completely leads in all multi-thread operations while doesn't lag very far behind in single-thread tasks either.
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards - ASUS M4A78L-M LE

If you are on a very tight budget then you can sell off your current working condition board+CPU+RAM and easing get around 3-3.5k. A new 2GB DDR3 RAM costs just 1.2k

Whichever way you upgrade, you will be unable to use the DDR2 RAM that you have. There are options which will allow you to use the current RAM(some wierd AMD mobo has both DDR2 and DDR3 support) but in the long term it will be much better if you get DDR3 RAM in your current budget.
In any case DDR3 RAM is cheaper than DDR2 RAM now. And it is faster, less power hungry etc....

Thank You all for replying to me, i have for now delayed the decision to upgrade the system as am looking at other alternatives like artic silver 7, but unfortunately my luck aint that good and i'm unable to get it in the market.
