Need earphones

My friend needs some decent earphones for his mp3 player. His budget is max 500 bucks but can go more slightly. Any suggestions ?

They have good pairs of earphones @ Sony World, for around 500 - 1500.

Thanks for the reply, yeah even I bought the Sony earphones for 600 bucks. The thing is he wants something different from me, he wants to know if Altec Lansing or Panasonic earphones in that price range are comparable with the Sony earphones.
