Graphic Cards Need el cheapo card

Want to buy a back up graphics card. Will use this card on my dads computer also so want a decent card. Budget is 3000, though lower the better. Considering either 5200 or 9250 SE. Which of the two is better and which company should I get.

I have checked other threads and seen that vandal and other members have had problems with XFX and I myself have problems with BIG. So please mention which company I should get other than those two. Thanks in advance. Also if people have sparingly used cards for sale, I wouldnt mind them quoting a price.

don't get any 5 series from nvidia ...... i think 6200 will be best bet ..... i think u can get it for sround 3500 and chk if the card is having 128bit memory interface coz 64 bit are having very crappy performance .....

6200 TC ? Isnt TC for PCI-E only. Also which company should I go for. I dont want a peformance card, just a backup card since I need to use my computer for college work a lot and cant afford for it to be down for an extended period.

I know that the 5200 or 9200/9250 comes for abt 2300 or so but I want one from a reputable company. I dont think I will get a 6200 for 3.5k from a good manufacturer. It will mostly be from BIG and XFX which Im tring to avoid after having a 'good' experience with BIG.

Yup, TC is only for PCI-E.

An XFX 6200 AGP costs around 3.5k. Btw, it comes with a 3 year warranty, so i dont see many issues. Coz most likely it would be a heatsink cooled card(No fan) and those cards should run without much problems..

If this is only a backup card and your budget is below 3k, then go for a geforce 5200 128bit. Again choices are limited for brands. My friend owns a XFX 5200 and i see no problems with either the card or the brand. He's been running it for 2 years now.

Another option is to search the market section for used Geforce 5600's or 5700's.. You may get them below 3k.

Thanks, mostly I will go for a 5200 since I dont want to spend too much money. BTW how are Leadtek and ASUS cards. Leadtek 5200 should be abt the same as XFX, but how much will and ASUS 5200 cost ?

Anybody having Leadtek cards ?

Also I bought a BIG 6600 GT thinking that since it comes with a 3 year warranty I should be safe. But the card has problems in many games. So the fun in having a good card is lost. Also I cant seem to overclock this card. That is why I dont want to compromise on the quality.

No idea about the cost of Leadtek cards but they are on par or slightly lower when compared with XFX. But since XFX has been selling 5200's in India for some time, it would be easier to get a card as well as a replacement in case of problems..

Asus is the best bet in terms of reliability or problems, but they could cost more. Dont be suprised if a Asus 5200 costs near 3k. :)

Hmm, what are your problems on 6600GT? You seem to suggest problems in many games. Sounds like a driver problem to me.. Dont think it is some problem with the brand here.

@Alias - Check out this thread to know the full extent of my troubles ! - http://www.techenclave.com/forums/geforce-6600-gt-problem-66572.html

Though you seem to have reduced my qualms abt XFX.

@SoulFire - The Fx 5500 is a OK deal, but I should have mentioned that my dad is kinda in the dark abt me buying this card. So I want to get the card from Mumbai and also since I am not looking into performance I would prefer to get one with a 3 year warranty.
