I am running oldie golden game Need For Speed:High Stakes (one of the best nfs:music & gameplaywise)

Running in Win XP after patching n stuffs.

Performance is shitty.. low FPS on my 6600GT around 15FPS and less.

i dont know whats the problem. Z Buffer is enabled.

can anyone help sorting it out? i really love this game playing at high FPS. i think the problem is with the game.

Edit:This game ran damn smoodh on my old Geforce 4 & Riva TNT2

maybe something else is running in the background or the hdd may be highly infected. try to rule those possibilities out first.

did u do its 3d setup tool ... does it detect ur GFX card????

and try to run it in compitablity mode use "win2000" option

check if ur vsync is no if yes then disable it

i used 3D Setup. detects Direct3D Device 1.. ill try compatibility mode

edit:win2000 compatibility mode doesnt work on performance. vsync off, AA=4x, AF=4x. will try shuttin off AAAF now

this game runs on 2D clock . shockin. i tried OC my 2d clock from 300Mhz to 500Mhz. and there is around 20% improvement in performance. but still not satisfied.. the game gets less FPS when more cars around. this is bad .. i thought its an old game and will b running very smoodh

How did you deduce that the game uses 2d clock? It's definetly a 3d game.

Your cpu is not enough, probably, from what you are saying.

siriusB, Carbon runs very smoodh @ 1024x768 max settings n with reflection on cars off. my 6600GT is factory overclocked to 525/1050

Edit:this game requires old cards i guess. any help increasing performance of NFS:HS?

You need to replace the DX renderer with the one from Porsche Unleashed. Of course you will have to rename the file to the same as the current one.

This is a file called DX something in the install folder. You're right, it's using emulated DX which is why it's so slow, and it's not 15FPS, more like 5.

After replacing the file, you probably WILL need to run the game in compatibility mode. The game will not save anything in this mode, but you can play the career mode fine. For any other settings you need to save, you will have to start with compatibility mode switched off, make the settings, exit and restart in compatibility mode. For Win98, it was designed not to work on W2000, so it'll error out if you select 2000.

You'll have to patch the .exe files, of course, I'm sure you've read through all those tricks to make it run on XP.

Edit: Here ya go, I had this lying around somewhere ;)
