I have 2 Gskill Ripjaws F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL installed on my motherboard ( Asus Maximus IV Extreme Z )
But the mother board detects it as 4GB only. actually as F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL. Is there some setting i should change or am i missing something.

TIA

which OS do you have installed??

A 32bit OS will recognize only 4gb irrespective of how much ram is installed(be it 16gb also).. This is because of the inherent limitation in its code..

Solution is to install a 64 bit OS like win 7 64 bit or xp 64 bit. that will solve the problem in 99 percent cases.. In the other 1 percent cases you will also need to enable memory remapping feature in the bios.. these two combined will give you 8 out of 8 gb for use..

I have win 7 64 ultimate installed.

I got the system from someone else so i didnt have an idea abt the gskill series. F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL is actual 2 x 4gb which i mistaken for 2 x 8gb . My mistake. Sorry for the trouble.

An Added Question : ... For gaming (read crysis 2) which RAM configuration is better

1) 8Gb @ 1600

2) 12GB @ 1333

Gaming wise the difference in latency is negligible, however frequency is more useful.. further no game uses beyond 8 gb. So 8gb is the more better choice.. beyond 8gb only video developers can use effectively..

^ his question wasnt about latency

@krugur

Not much difference in performance between 1600 & 1333 , but for now 8gb will be enough
