Hi,
I'm building a gaming rig from scratch, and I need your recommendations. My budget is around 50k. Now the thing is, I'm trying to get as many of the components I can from my friend who lives in canada, as he is coming in June.

So, I'm going to be ordering a few of the things from http://www.tigerdirect.ca

Till now, I have the following :
Kingston 1024MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory - Rs 4205
XFX GeForce 6800 Xtreme 256MB - Rs 7226
NEC ND3550A DVD Writer - Rs 2332

So the total is coming out to be Rs 13.7 k approx.

Can u suggest me a few more things that I can get from that site? Like mobo's and cooling solutions?

I already have a keyboard and mouse so they are not required.

no no no the gfx card is abig no no :P
i'd suggest get 7900gt for around 15k 4m newegg.
ram 1gb seems fine but try 512 * 2 or 1gb * 2 and try getting ocz rev 4.1 for this 512 * 2 or normal uccc for 1gb*2.
get the proccy without the heatsink tellhim to dumpthe package and bring u only the chip.[opteron 165)
get a good hsf like si120.
cabby get antec super lanboy from here with antec neohe.
cd writer and dvd rw get 4m here as they r most prone to damages within warranty periods.
get ur mobo from here asus a8ne or if u wanna sli later asus a8nsli premium.
(never used dfi so cant say but 100% ppls say its good u can get tht too)
cooling system well if ur on ac no need of fancy stuffs except a nice si 120.
iof you stay absoluitely in midst of kalahari desert get water cooling system 4m zalman.

^^Newegg doesnt ship to canada. Tigerdirect is potentially the best for canadians. Get a 7600GT instead of 6800 vanilla. Lot better card.

NewEgg does ship to Canada IIRC.

TigerDirect has the same prices so it doesnt matter.

Yea amaresh, go with a 7900GT atleast.

Dont order that RAM. It sucks.

Go for Any Samsung UCCC Derived RAM.

For Value series, Corsair is the best.

Get an

AMD Opteron 165 Socket 939

Asus A8N-e Mobo

Corsair 1 GB Value

eVGA 7900GT (Hope its not sold out)

250GB Hitachi Deskstar SATA

I think that should cut it for you :)

Thanks for the good response guys. Yeah Tigerdirect is my only choice, newegg doesnt ship to canada.

Ok, I'm going with the XFX7600 GT then, it seems a good deal at 10k, the 7900gt is too expensive.

I'm getting the mobo (A8n-e) at 5.6k, is that quite cheap from what I would get it here for ?

Also the opteron's are too expensive man, 17k is way too much. How about i go for an AMD 64 3400+ at 8k ? Is that a good deal?

Lastly, I heard that Kingston valueRAM's were supposed to be good? Are UCCC better? How much is the cost for 1 GB UCCC ram?

The A8N-E is available here for 5.5k :P Go for an opteron 144 if u can should be around 170-180$(US). The 3400+ is a socket 754 CPU. In socket 939 u have 3200+ and 3500+. If u cant get the Opty 144 go for either of these two. U can get UCCC RAM here for 4k for a GB so get it here. Seriously the only thing worth buying from there would be a graphics card, cooler and a PSU. Rest of the stuff u can get for either similar or slightly higher prices here with warranty.

Yep A8ne is more or less the same here. Get a GPU, CPU, cooler, fancy lighting, mod stuff from abroad, a psu if someone can carry that much weight. Just saw that tigerdirect is charging a lot for opterons 144/165 as well. Better get the 144 locally with warranty.

How much would a 144 cost me if I get it from say Nehru Place in New Delhi? I guess it would be safe to get a 7600 GT and a good cooling system. The thing is TigerDirect don't store SI-120's, so could anyone have a look and tell me which would be my safest bet for a cooling system?

Choas, I said IIRC.

THAT MEANS IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY.

****ING MOTHER****ER.

Dont need to get offensive if i was wrong.

Dick...

Yeah Tigerdirect is my only choice, newegg doesnt ship to canada.

I read this and was corrected na.

Still Flame.

do have si120 and will ship to Can ;) you can buy your cooling componets from this site
opty 144 is hard to get  146 cost you 9000 or 10,000

The opty 144 if available is 8.5-9k. The 146 prices have gone thorugh the roof. My dealer said that when they are available it would be 11k :S

Another thing that just came to my mind, is it true that these goods will not be allowed to pass through the customs unless my friend pays up 100% extra?

No way, ur legally allowed to bring 25,000 worth of stuff without paying duty and u can easily get more. Unless ur carrying a lot of stuff u can usually get it through without any problems. Else u can always bribe the guy :P ( not joking, u can)

Heheh cheers, yeah even my friend just confirmed that he had no problems when he carried a mouse for me last winter.
