Need help connecting Home Theater to new Samung LED TV

I have recently purchased Samsung 46" TV D6000. I have a Sony Home Theater which I would like to connect to my TV. Which kind of cable should I look for and which port to be used both on Player and the TV. It looks like I may have to use Optical cable.

Sony Home Theater Model is DAV DZ151 KB







 
Your hts does not seem to have optical in & hdmi ports. you need to connect tv to hts by analog cables. In first photo that you posted, there are 'R' & 'L' audio in ports. You will need two a/v cables white & red coulored. you may have got them with hts or you can buy them from any electronics shop. connect cables as per color coding. means one end of white cable goes in white audio out port of tv and other end goes in white audio in port of hts. same for red one. Also yellow video cable goes in similar port on tv.enjoy.
 
Using AV cables, connect the Component connections ~ Y PbPr to the TV on the backside. From your TV, you will have L and R audio out ports. Connect them to the Audio In L and R on the HTS.

Guys my Samsung LED TV does not have Audio Out. IT has only Optical Out.

That's the problem.

that is strange. you should have checked the hts specs before buying. You can look for optical to component converting adaptor. see the below one which I found on ebay. But that is too costly. check whether there is any cheap version is available. Your tv must have headphone out port. If yes, you can simply buy a stereo cable. connect one end to tv's headphone out and other end to audio in port on your hts. that port must be located at front side of hts. That is the cheapest solution.

My HTS was bought in 2007 whereas the TV was bought couple of weeks ago.

Will the convertor work in preserving the quality. I don't mind spending some money but it should be worth it.

I'm, currently using the setup that you have suggested. But quality is not that great.

ok. I don't know about sound quality loss using converting adapters. But I suggest not to spend so much on them. As far as I know, all the channels transmit audio signals in stereo format. so even if you buy adapter, you will get slightly better sq than current setup. You will not get any surround effects even if your hts has Prologic-II decoding receiver. Sound input must be digital to get surround effect. Which you will not get as you will be converting digital signals to analog.

Forgot to mention, If you have set top box (tata sky, dish tv or any other) you can directly input L+R audio from it to your hts. no need to do any other 'jugaad'. this way audio quality loss will also be minimum & it will cost you very little or nothing. If you want to switch between tv and hts sound, you will need additional cables and a 'splitter'. But these are very cheap.
