Need help deciding Home Theatre System

My Bro-In Law and Sis have decided to make a purchase of 40" LCD TV , and a good home theater system in London. Now they have decided on purchasing the Samsung LE40M87BDX LCD for around 750GBP. Now they have a budget of around 200-250GBP for a good Home theater system , even 2.1 speakers would do. Brands like Samsung , Sony are preferred . Something better would be also cool.

^ Its almost impossible for us to sit here and tell you what products / prices you would find in the UK market ;)

But avoid brands like Samsung / Sony as far as possible and try to pickup something more upmarket like Denon / Wharfedale / KEF.
 
KEF / Mirage/ Anthony Gallo etc have nice sub-sat systems that blend into the decor, while still sounding good :P Ask them to check these.
 
k....i m lookin at Rios wharfedale + amp system....they sure luk sweet for the pricing...will chk em out....also , to complement this system , any suggestions on the DVD player ??

EDIT: Btw , the 8.1 diamond WD , its a two speaker set right ? sorry , but am a n00b when it comes to audio......
 
^ Yes, the 8.1 is a stereo setup, but you can always add a sub to make it a 2.1

For the DVD player, look for a something with good build, and decent upscaling. Denon has quite a few good models, check Pioneer and Toshiba also :)
 
Denon 1930, 1940. I've seen a 1080p upscaling Samsung (870 or something), quite good as well.. MUCH cheaper than the Denons, of course!
