Hi folks i am planning to pick up a 1TB HDD .I am gonna use it as a dump drive .I have a laptop with USB and Fire wire ports only:@.I am confused whether to pick up the WD internal, then put a casing and use it or pick up a WD home edition or essential edition drives.Which one is better option here??.Btb does WD provide international warranty .My budget is max of 6K.

TIA:D

thing is...most external casings for 3.5" HDDs are of a cheap chinese make....unless you go in for Vantec, or maybe Transcend Storejet35 series casings (available through mediahome)

better would be to go for WD branded external drive...and yes WD has a support system where you can transfer the warranty from one country to another...

I guess i have to choose the WD home/essential edition as i heard the docks dont have international warranty. Can some one throw light on docks with international warranty.

Yeah definetly you should go for external drive only from WD...........

As internal drive has to kept into casing which are itself of too low quality.... And proned to error even with minor shock or error in ejecting.....

always go for an external casing with a fan becouse in a desi external casing HDD fails faster as temp. rises faster so try to buy a external HDD or an external casing from a known good menufacturer

^Not really, i have seen person using the WD Mybook for 24*7. It depends on how good the casing dissipates the heat from the hdd.

I'd recommend WD Mybook or seagate freeagent.

Get a Seagate 1TB Internal HDD - 32MB buffer , then u can get good cases out side then modd with 2 fans it runs cool & fast , i doing it with 500GB

Thanks for the input, but i have decided to go for the My book edition as International warranty is my major concern.AFAIK docks do not have international warranty.

is there any 1TB external one but portable.... i mean without power cable... i am ok with 4500/5400 RPM...without power so i can carry it anywhere....
as far as i know max is 500 right ??

I suppose Seagate makes some........... Check out their Free Agent Series;/......

There should be some models...... That satisfy your need....

My book & Free agent is little crappy one

My book In built driver problem & free agent Heating issues !!

Check all before u buy
