Hi,

I have a Dell Desktop with a ATIX1300 256MB graphic card. Since this PC has only a DVI out, I would like to change the graphic card to a card with a HDMI out. Please recommend a graphic card that can deal with outputting 1080p video files and come close to playing Crysis. And since I'm a complete noob would you suggest me opening up the cabinet and replacing the card by myself?

^^ Thats PCIe BTW. Yes, specify the budget and we can recommend a card for you. As for installing the card, it isn't much of a big deal. Its just a matter of pushing the card into the slot and connecting the moniter to it.

Hi,

My budget is around 6k [Stretching it]. Planning to use the system a permanent htpc for the LCD [or Plasma] I'm planning to buy shortly. My current rig is able to play 1080p videos with an occasional stutter in heavy action scenes, so maybe the card may need not be so powerful. Only thing is hdmi output should be a must.

ohh yes he's a muvi guy........ U can also have a look at HD4550 only 3k :)

Damn, there is a terminology for guys like me. :) BTW, since this is going to be the very first time I'm going to gut my PC, one simple doubt, if I replace the card will the cabinet cover fit in the backside. As I can see there are two dvi's out and a single vga slot that has been capped. Do I need to cut open a space in the cover for the hdmi slot to show out?

U should be having a opening in line your PCIe slot (once u remove ur old card) through which u can access the connectors of ur card. No cutting needed.

If you're not the spendy kind, a DVI-HDMI cable will cost you 10% of the money and do exactly what you need. A DVI-HDMI dongle also works, but I don't know how readily available that is.

I got my cables from KMD, and it works flawlessly to connect my PC to the 3008WFP using the HDMI input.

As for Crysis - with the kind of cards you're looking at, forget it.

Damn, you mean to say, that none of the cards im looking at will help me play crysis. Then please do recommend a card that will play that SOB of a game while still having a hdmi output.

Will post the pics once im back home. As far as what Nik has said, let me open the PC today and check. BTW, does HD4550 mean thisATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4550 Graphics Technology - Overview

Where does this card sell for 3k [Online] in India?
This is how the rump of my desktop looks like. You can see the VGA port is blocked and only the dvi output is connected. Reverting back to my original question, is it possible to replace the existing graphic card with any other card and have place for the hdmi/dvi and vga outputs to pop out of this cabinet. This is a dell inspiron 5315
