Need help in upgrading to windows 8

HI guyz,


I have a sony vaio laptop where I have installed windows XP professional. I also took a backup of the OS which the laptop originally came with that is windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

Since now Windows 8 has come and I have the option to upgrade, I wanted to install in dual boot as I need to have windows xp professional for my office work.

What will you suggest, is dual boot harmful for the laptop and also i am upgrading from windows 7 to windows 8. Can I buy the genuine key from microsoft in Virtual PC to use it later on after the promotion period is over rather than doing dual boot of win 7 and win xp and then trying to upgrade win 7 to win 8.

Dual boot is not harmful, you will need to create a separate partition to install another OS. Windows XP does not have that feature to split a hard drive to a multiple volumes, you will need to get partition tools similar to Partition Magic / EASEUS Partition Master and create / shrink existing hard drive partition to create atleast 20 GB Partition for windows 8, Install Windows 7 & upgrade / get a copy from Microsoft and install windows 8 directly.
