Here is what i have.
New xbox 360 arcade
A 22 " monitor with DVI.
HDMI to DVI cable. I use this to get display on my monitor.
a powerful home theater that does NOT support HDMI.
One XBOX composite cable (One that came in with the xbox).

Now the composite cable ( yellow red white) is designed such that it blocks my HDMI port.
So I can either connect that, or the HDMI-DVI cable.
So i can get either sound , or video , not both together. :S
What's the least expensive way to get out of my situation ??:huh:

Yes, this is a stupid problem that is faced by many people. MS has designed the stock cable in this way so that you are forced to buy their overpriced HDMI cable.

The only solution I can think of it to unfortunately buy their HDMI cable kit. In the kit, the socket which goes in the Xbox is thinner thereby exposing the HDMI port. Then you can use your cable with that.

Here is the link: Xbox.com | Accessories - Xbox 360 HDMI Cable

It usually costs around 2k in India. But you can get it for cheap from gaming forums like consoul.in - View forum - Trading and Exchange forum

^Huh - is that so? That's a stupid marketing strategy! :\

Btw does the LCD have a 3.5mm audio out/headphones out by any chance? What LCD is this?

it's Viewsonic 2235WM.

Heh , Never mind ; Found a solution .. and did not have to spend a rupee on it.
I'll post a link or some pics shortly.

This is what I did :
How-To: Turn a standard Xbox 360 video cable into a VGA cable for make benefit your wallet -- Engadget

I thought of it this way .. if I was to buy a new cable, the old AV cable was anyhow useless for me. So , I stab-opened the plastic shell.... the a/v port was reduced to half. And I could simply fit it with the HDMI cable.

I could send you original pics later from home in-case anyone is interested.
